Campers Beware! Worst park ever. Owner charged an extremely high charge. We had no internet, no cable TV and brown stinky water even after using our filter. Owner or he said he was was no where to be found the next day. I called him and he said he was not there. I asked for a partial refund and all's he wanted to do was argue. We had a cruise to catch. He wanted us to drive back to him an hour out of the way and we said no. He said he would not give us any credit. Owner took advantage... Read More

I have never written a campground review in over fifty years of camping but am compelled to warn anyone considering staying at this campground to find an alternative. We were charged over $60 for a one night midweek stay for a simple electrical hookup site - nearly double the range listed in the Good Sam Book. The owner/operator's reason "high season." The bathrooms/showers were dingy, dimly lit, and the fixtures rust stained from intolerable iron content in the water. My wife refused to enter them... Read More

My wife refused to enter them after one visit, nor did we use any campground water. The general appearance of the buildings (mostly log construction), the upkeep, and the dim interior lighting made one feel like being in a time warp. Most of the things advertised on the large Gitche Gumme RV Park & Campground sign at the highway entrance were not available. No "Fudge Factory," "Movie Theater," "Log Library," or "Cable TV" - just locked up remnants of an era gone-by. Between the owner/operator's disorganized and mercurial behavior, and the condition of the campground I would recommend avoiding it at all costs and also its removal from the Good Sam Book.

I made reservations 2 months in advance & was very clear about our rig & our needs (full hookups etc). I was told I'd have to make a full payment in advance. I hesitantly did so because there didn't seem to be a lot of options in this area. When we arrived at the campground, we were dismayed at the run down appearance & trash overflowing in the dumpster. Inside his office, flies we're everywhere. We had paid $45/ night for 5 nights which on check in he claimed was a "base" rate & that we owed another... Read More

He stated he would refund our money in the evening when he did his bookkeeping. From what we saw his "bookkeeping" was spread all over the dark, dingy room. It has now been a week & despite several phone calls & promises to call me back & refund the money he has yet to do so. Needless to say, we are not happy & highly discourage others to give their money to this unscrupulous person.

Lets start by saying I don't normally write reviews, I want to be constructive as I can, I feel compelled to. Our family of 5 traveled from lower Michigan to see the UP for the first time. Our time in the upper was great and most likely the last time we will all be together as we have 19 and 20 year old girls. I will tell you that I spoke with the owner about our concerns, specifically about the light bulbs and was told he had no bulbs to replace the many that were out in the women's bathroom.... First the good, the park has the look and feel to be great. The sites are large and roomy, the amenities are there as they state. The bad, They misrepresented the park, before booking I was told everything was in working order and was all that and a bag of chips. The park may have everything but the condition is poor. Restroom are the most Important item to a camper and they were poor. One light bulb worked and the stalls were dark and dirty. The same garbage remained in the garbage can through the 3 day stay. They were never cleaned. The movie that was showed every night, never happened until we asked were it was being shown. The coffee every morning is made with the high mineral content water from the area. A simple softener would take care of that. The owner seems to be preoccupied with adding on to the park rather than caring for the 30 year old buildings in need of some minor repairs and cleaning. I understand he runs the place himself and there are many things to do. Don't tell people on the phone everything is new and working (like the fudge shop which has been closed for 3 years) when its not. New attitude, new owners, or maybe some new vigor could turn this camp ground into something fantastic.

This would be a really great park, sites are nice, grounds are unique, location is good, staff is nice, but the water is so heavily mineralized that it is brown. OK if you bring your own drinking water. Nice beach across the road.
