We pulled in at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon. The office was closed. A resident told us where we could look for sites but warned us that the sewer dump station was out-of-order. The park is divided into two sections, one with electric, water and sewer hookups, the other with water and electric only. We found quite a few sites available, however, the park is very run-down. Although there is a 30-day stay limit, almost all trailers have obviously been there for many years with sheds, permanent sewer hookups, piles of junk, etc. There is trash everywhere which is smelly in spots. There are numerous stray cats running around. Many people have dogs tied outside their trailers, and most don't seem to clean up after them. We saw a few walking their dogs in an open area, looking the other way when the dogs pooped. We stayed overnight in a water and electric site and our next-door-neighbor's sewer hose was just stretched out on the ground by his trailer. The grass at the end of the hose was very green and long. We hoped he was only dumping gray water. Sunday morning we immediately started looking for another campground, found one, and left. The office was still closed. This campground feels very un-safe. I would go to Walmart before I stayed here.

The past few years, the park has been filling with "permanent" residents mostly down on their luck living in trashy RVs in various states of dilapidation. It's also a favorite place for temporary workers at the nearby Turkey Point nuclear power plant to park their RVs during upgrades & refurbishment and other temporary workers who come to this area so call ahead before coming here. Many of the permanent residents have bad habits and nothing is safe left outside overnight. Everything must be stored and cabled overnight or it will be gone in the morning. But, with all that being said, the park has a great location just one block off US-1 and 20 minutes to Key Largo (4 hours to Key West) or the entrance to Everglades National Park and the main visitor center. There's a Super Walmart, Aldi's, Golden Corral, Best Buy, Home Depot, Sonny's BBQ and lots of shopping and eating places within a block or two. We first stayed here in the '70s and not much has changed over the years. The current monthly rate of $480 (includes 30 amp electric - there are a very limited number of 50 amp sites which are usually occupied) is unbeatable in this area. The park does not take reservations and those arriving late can find a spot in the overflow area behind the office, then pick out another spot with full hookups the next morning. Pets are permitted except for purebred pit bulls and other dangerous breeds of that type. I haven't seen many pet owners cleaning up after their pets so watch where you step. There is a WiFi hotspot in the tiny office at the entrance and a table that can be used behind it when the office is closed.
