Kind of an old school USFS campground but a very nicely kept up one. There are two loops with a variety of sites on each... some close to others some pretty private. The lower loop can have highway noise. The upper loop has little highway noise but has the group camp which can be a bit noisy if in use with a large group. Most sites are mostly level and even though it says no slide outs there are a some that will accommodate a fair sized one and a few more that can take a small one. Forested with... Read More

Forested with Jeffery and White Pine... Willows and Cottonwoods down by the smallish Cottonwood Creek and Manzanita most everywhere. Cottonwood Creek and Cold Stream across the highway are fair stream fisheries and there are other streams and lakes nearby. There is some hiking and the campground has a short, signed, nature trail at the back... get a guide sheet from the camp host. The current camp host keeps the sites and the pit toilets in excellent shape and makes rounds a few times a day. Cottonwood Creek Campground is a perfect place for the night if passing through or a few days of watching the rocks grow peacefully. Even on holiday weekends it is rarely more than half full... A couple miles down the road in the Sierra Valley is the town of Sierraville with a store, restaurant and fuel.
