Mounds State Park is the site of ten Native American ceremonial mounds constructed around 150 B.C. The campground is in a clearing at the back end of the park next to the Anderson, IN airport. The sites are fairly level paved (asphalt) with a mixture of back in and pull thru sites, all with electric only. There are 2-3 water spigots around the campground to refill water tanks, as there are no water hookups. There is a bathhouse with showers and flush toilets (I imagine for non-winter use only)... There is a bathhouse with showers and flush toilets (I imagine for non-winter use only) and pit toilets for year round use. There is a children's playground in one corner of the campground. The only dumpsters are near the check-in booth at the entrance to the campground next to a two lane waste water dump station. The sites are arranged along several roads in the campground but the roads are not marked as to which sites are on which road so some people have to make several loops to figure out where their campsite is located. There is a very poor campground map (the same map is on the campground web site and given out at check-in) as you pull into the campground proper, across from the campground host site. There is a small camp store at the check-in booth as you enter the campground area. There is access to the White River from near the campground but the boat ramp is no longer usable as the river changed its course during the last flooding. The park boasts a nature center and small gift shop in addition to five hiking/nature trails around the mounds and along the river and a swimming pool (Memorial Day to Labor Day). The staff were friendly and helpful with area directions.
