Great place to stay if you’re wanting to visit Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial. This is not an RV park that has any ambience or amenities where you would want to spend time enjoying the park. The roads are all gravel and dusty. The restrooms were sufficent. The park is situated a long way from any grocery stores or restaurants. The WiFi is very poor and a good cellular signal from the park is very limited. The park is very noisy from the freeway arterial traffic. This is NOT a 10-10-10 park.

We attended a rally at Heartland with 34 other Cedar Creeks. I did not have much interaction with the staff but they were all friendly. I give the facility 4 stars for 2 reasons - all of the roads and sites are gravel (and there was a constant wind blowing dust everywhere) and the campground is close to the highway so lots of road noise (at one meal in the restaurant, we could barely have a conversation due to the road noise). While the campground is near all of the major attractions in the area, it is 30 minutes to 2 hours travel to them. All utilities were good except the cable tv which was poor.

The park is closer to Custer and Mt. Rushmore but a bit of a trek to Rapid City. With that said it is a very nice park and the staff are responsive and helpful. It is great they have a restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch on site, makes it so much easier and the food is good. The sites are level, the showers are clean but a little small. The hot tub and pool are nice. Overall this was a nice place to stay.

We stayed at Heartland RV Park & Cabins in Hermosa, South Dakota for three weeks (6-26 September 2020). This is a very nice park with great ambiance, nice appearance, well maintained vegetation, clean facilities, friendly staff, and great location. The roads and sites are well maintained and level gravel. Each site has an illuminated post with the site number that provides lighting at night for hooking up and disconnecting. Spacing between sites is slightly wider than many RV campgrounds and parks. Water pressure is good and the water has no smell odor or objectionable taste. Unfortunately, we do not recommend this campground and would not stay in the future. Wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing is a respect for others that minimizes the transmission of Covid-19 to campers. Not a single employee at Heartland RV Park & Cabins wore a face mask or maintained social distancing. Although WiFi is provided free, it is a woefully inadequate system. Heartland RV Park & Cabins provides clear notice, the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size of the network is not designed or intended for online gaming, streaming video, torrents, and video chat. Unfortunately, that notice certainly understates the usefulness of the system. We work as we travel and that work is dependent upon consistent WiFi connection for e-mails, data exchange, and general employment communications. Slow WiFi is frustrating, but usable. Systems that consistently and repeatedly drop the user off line, as is experienced with WiFi at Heartland RV Park & Cabins, is useless. This issue is not insufficient WiFi network range. Signal strength is not an issue when most campers are sleeping. i.e. the wee hours of the night. Neither is the lack of reliability of the Heartland RV Park & Cabins WiFi system due to interference with WiFi network signals. Moving around the park does not change the issue of dropping out. It appears Heartland RV Park & Cabins resets their system, dropping all users off line, whenever a preset number of users is exceeded or whenever a preset bandwidth usage is exceeded.

Wow! This was a great place to stay! Close to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park. Great scenery of the Black Hills. They offer a fantastic breakfast every morning, $5.00 or less and you will NOT go away hungry! Staff was very friendly and helpful. There's a great pizza place just down the road, Lintz's, I think. Bathrooms were very clean. They also have a book exchange in the camp store. We would definitely stay here again.

We visited several years ago when campground was only 1-2 years old. There was a problem with water and mud whenever it rained and that hasn't changed despite the fact that the campground has 6 times as many sites and is adding 100 more (wider and longer). Roads gravel, pull-thru sites. When site is empty, it is `dragged' to remove ruts. There is little drainage and each rainstorm causes the silt that runs into the campground to become liquid mud that is almost impossible to clean off. It appears that the owner is more interested in profit than the comfort of the guests. Several long-term residents. Restrooms, laundry rooms clean and well-stocked. Staff very helpful. Limited number of Passport America sites with unlimited stay at a 20% discount. About 20 miles from Rapid City. Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, City of Custer, Jewel Cave and Wind Cave National Parks, Mammoth Site and Hot Springs within about a 50-mile radius. Would return to the area but not to this park.

The Parks Website makes the park look more attractive than it is in person. At present they are undergoing a major addition at one end of the park to add many more sites. The lot sizes are tight and the roads are narrow in comparison to many parks. The roads and sites are gravel, but level. The park is clean. we did not use the restroom, but based on the rest of the park I would assume they are well kept. The park location was great for our needs. we were just far enough away from Mt. Rushmore so as to avoid the crowds, yet we were able to take in all the sightseeing we wanted in our 4 day stay. We would definitely come back again .

Basic RV park, site size below average. Electric and WiFi satisfactory. My site was muddy evidencing minimal gravel. Same condition for roads. Not a "resort", basic RV facility that satisfactorily meets your needs for a visit to the area.

This is a great campground for being able to get to all the wonderful attractions in the Rapid City area. The staff is very helpful and accommodating!! They are developing a huge new addition to the park which will open up many new sites. And they have wonderful videos on their website of possible day trips from the campground.

This is a fairly new Park, and it is set up very nice for the large RV's I came in with a 32' towing, and had no problem getting in. Did not use restrooms, so won't rate or comment. The sites and roads are gravel?, or should I say they are a gravel clay soil mix. Thin on the gravel. We had a rain during our stay, and you could see where the pads on an RV sunk about 3 inches, the mud flowed with the water. The folks were friendly, and I was able to get a site with no planned reservation, but to the point, they weren't full and it was Sturgis week? I don't know why not but it was good for me. The CG is very handy to the tour sites in the area. Black Hills, Mount Rushmore etc. Would I stay here again absolutely. My suggestion to the owners is to get good clean gravel and put it down for the roadways and sites, also making a ditch or a means of draining excessive rain water.

Very noisy situated off the highway. Weird arrangement for showers all in the same small entry area. Men and women must shower in the same room behind doors of course. Better arrangement needed. Bathrooms and showers were clean.

The ladies that worked in the check in lobby are amazing..enjoyed them a lot. The facility is under construction so lots of piles of dirt ..which is understandable. The spot we was in was a drive thru but the truck and camper didn't fit in same spot. We parked In an empty spot across or next to us. It's close to the highway so has road noise. Very few trees..would of liked to of seem more. But our biggest complaint was where the dog walking area was. We have 2 large dogs and we had to walk them quite a ways to get across the camp ground to the dog walking grass.. It would be nice to have an area on both sides of camp ground. With all that being said I would recommend this camp ground just needs a few tweaks.

Aside from the dirt roads and sites and the narrow grass strips between sites, and no shade of any kind, the biggest drawback to this park is the highway noise and handicap restroom access. The restroom has handicapped facilities but the key is kept in the office which means a person of limited mobility or wheelchair has to wheel himself to the office, obtain the key, wheel back to the restroom, and when finished, take the key back to the office, then wheel himself to his site. A coded lock would make more sense. Good park for a short stay. The only real positive assets are they have power and water at the tent sites which you do not see very often and it is close to the Black Hill's attractions.

We stayed 8 days here right off highway 79 so the road noise was noticeable but not unbearable. Bath and showers very clean as was the pool area and hot tub. The staff is very friendly and was very help in helping us with directions to different sites to see. The site we had was level and long enough for are 36 ft MH and toad. All sites are gravel and level. This is a great location for seeing all there is to see in the Black Hills including Hot Spring, Wild Horse Sanctuary, and Custer National Park. We spent very little time at the RV park except to sleep; there was too much to see. We will stay here again when we come back.

Stayed 3-nights. Very nice RV park but next to a main highway with an up-hill grade which made it somewhat noisy when semi-trucks rolled through. Sites were level though not quite long enough for a 37 ft motorhome and a regular size car. We had to park the car side-ways in order to stay off the grass. Still a nice campground. The laundry facility is very small for an RV park with this number of sites. They should consider expanding this part of their facility in the future. When we left we had to throw our trash on top of a pile of other trash next to the dumpster because the dumpster was over-flowing. Not sure when it was last emptied but there were not that many campers in the place for it to be over-flowing like this unless it had not been emptied in more than a couple of weeks. Otherwise appears to be well maintained. I would stay there again if in the area.
