Nice state park just off I-75. Nice grounds. Paved roads and gravel sites. Sites not completely level, bu leveling jacks handled it OK. Our pull-thru was a jug handle site. Very long rigs (we are 35') might have trouble navigating the entry and exit. Bathrooms are old, but clean and nice. Certainly recommended if you are in the area. Not very close to restaurants and shopping, but most state parks are not.

There was a special event going on and most of the campground was reserved by a large group of teenage campers - making this not a normal weekend for the park (especially at this time of year). The group was well behaved and just about all that was impacted was the restrooms. My family visited here for some winter camping here in December 2015. There was a special event going on and most of the campground was reserved by a large group of teenage campers - making this not a normal weekend for the park (especially at this time of year). The group was well behaved and just about all that was impacted was the restrooms. It rained that weekend and there was no way that the staff could keep the campground restrooms clean with dozens or more teens running in and out. Otherwise, the park was actually cleaner than many TN State Parks we have camped in. The ranger staff was nice and helpful. The sites are fairly small and close together. Even if the leaves are on the trees it would be very hard to feel any privacy here. We were in a 22 ft. class B camper van and we felt cramped. The interstate (I-75) is nearby and you can hear the cars and trucks at times in some parts of the park. The lake is nice to walk around and there is a very nice paved walking path through the woods at the opposite end of the park from the campground. I would recommend getting out of the campground and walking if you stay here, though there isn't really in "hiking" in a traditional sense - only walking paths. Overall, I would return here (and have since) to walk on the paths and trails. However, due to the cramped feeling of the campground my family does not plan on returning to this park for camping.

We asked the ranger to ask them to move the campfire behind their camper but he refused. I explained that I have asthma and if the fire smoked a lot, it would set off an asthma attack. He offered to let us move, but there weren't many spaces available, and we had already been there 3 days before this family came. The next morning the kids built a fire with green wood and there was excessive smoke which filled our camper with smoke. We had to turn off our fan and a/c as it was pulling it all in our camper. We had just purchased this 2015 camper and was our first time out. The smoke did fill our camper and I experienced an asthma attack. Our only option was to pack and leave even though we had already paid for another night. The fire was so close to the back of our camper that I asked my husband to go check the spare tire and cover to make sure it wasn't melting. I felt that the ranger should either have asked the family to either move to another spot or move their campfire to their space. Also the lake edge had dead fish and a large turtle that had died and washed up on shore. The smell was terrible and the fish and turtle were there when we pulled in and remained there the 3 nights that we were there. I will have to say that the rangers did a good job of keeping activities for all children available. The bathrooms were clean and park mowed very nicely. Have camped at this campground several times, but probably will not go back.
