One Tank Trip for Washington Camping

Breathtaking Washington offers wonderfully diverse opportunities for travelers. From relaxation, to recreation, to adventure, you'll find the possibilities are as endless as the graceful beauty of this scenic state. Our first one tank trip location is a beautiful area known as the Tri-Cities region, which includes the cities of Richland, Pasco and Kennewick. Within this small area there are more than 160 wineries within a 50-mile radius, which makes it the perfect place to do a little winery touring and tasting, or take some time to admire the expansive beauty of the vineyards. With the confluence of the Yakima, Columbia and Snake rivers, visitors will also find a wealth of recreation year-round including skiing, hunting, fishing and kayaking. The possibilities here will delight any traveler! Taking US-395 N out of the Tri-Cities, merge onto WA-17 N, then merge onto WA-26 W and in less than 2 hours you will arrive at our next Washington RV camping destination, Othello. Abundant in wildlife and outdoor recreation, Othello is also home to the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge where bird enthusiasts will delight in the large numbers of migrating and wintering fowl to be found here. With over 23,000 acres to play and explore, travelers will find the rugged beauty of this area the perfect place for hiking, biking, and fishing as well. From Othello, return to WA-17 N, and in about an hour, you'll have arrived in beautiful Moses Lake. Reenact your favorites scenes from “Lawrence of Arabia” here at one of the largest sand dune areas in the region, or better yet, put on your eye gear and do some off-road driving and exploring of the dunes. If off-roading isn't your thing, you'll find a wealth of other incredible activities including golf, fishing and water skiing. Leaving Lake Moses, take WA-17 N to Soap Lake. Welcome to the most unique stop on our one tank trip! At the turn of the century, this unusual lake (that takes its name from the minerals within the lake giving it a soapy texture) was widely known as mineral spa, and people with all sorts of ills came from miles around to soak in the water, and play in the creamy mud. Today, visitors can still come to this peaceful area to get a massage, sit on the beach and relax their cares away; just the thing for those tired muscles after all the excitement in Lake Moses. Now that you've soaked your troubles and sore muscles, it's back to WA-17 N with a merge onto US-2 E to scenic Coulee City. Nestled on the shores of Banks Lake, Coulee City is the oldest city in the county, and one that provides visitors with some incredible outdoor fun. Birdwatching, fishing, hiking, and guided hunting are most popular in this area. Visitors will also find the famous Dry Falls in this region, and although no water flows now, it was once the sight of the largest waterfall known to have existed on earth. Viewing the 3.5 miles of sheer cliffs that drop 400 feet, it’s easy to imagine the roar of water pouring over the side. Our next Washington RV camping stop is a short drive on Washington-155 N to Grand Coulee. Sitting two miles above the incredible 550-foot-high walls of the largest concrete dam in America, the city of Grand Coulee welcomes visitors from the four corners for some serious outdoor fun. Lake Roosevelt, the backwater of the dam, has 630 miles of shoreline and is 150 miles long, providing anglers and water sports enthusiasts with more than enough to keep them busy for hours. Guided tours are offered of the impressive dam and if you get lucky enough to hang around after the sun goes down, there is an incredible light show on the dam you won't want to miss! A little over an hour away on Washington 155 N you'll find our last stop, Omak. Ruggedly beautiful and serene, Omak offers visitors many water activities including fishing, skiing and hunting. This lovely area of the Okanogan Valley offers plenty of wineries and breweries to visit, and a wonderful Native American history that is celebrated through Pow Wows and other events. The beauty and charm of this small town can win over the pickiest traveler, as there truly is something for everyone! Miles and miles of untouched forests and the tranquil natural beauty make the Evergreen State irresistible to nature lovers and outdoorsmen alike. No matter where you travel in this state, you'll look forward to every turn in the road.
