One Tank Trip for Utah Camping

This incredible state is known the world over for its diverse range of landscapes, and visitors from all over are enticed by the beauty and year round recreation. Whether you're looking for world class skiing at any of the many ski resorts, or simply want to marvel at the beauty of the natural stone arches and canyons, Utah is definitely the place you want to be. Ruby's Inn in Bryce Canyon is a great starting point for our one tank trip. This wonderful RV park offers travelers easy access to all points of interest in this area, and is a favorite among RVers and campers alike. Visitors here can enjoy horseback riding, mountain biking, guided ATV tours and helicopter tours. The views are spectacular in this region, and it's the perfect place to get you warmed up for the rest of our adventure. Leaving Ruby's Inn, take UT-12 W and merge onto US-89 N, and in around an hour you will have arrived in Panguitch. This quiet and unassuming town (with a most unusual name) is centered in the highest concentration of scenic natural wonders in the US, giving Panguitch the fitting title - “Center of Scenic Utah”. Visitors here can enjoy a plethora of outdoor fun! From snowshoe hikes along the rim to guided tours, which will take you through some of the most beautifully diverse flora and fauna found anywhere. There is an incredible fishing adventure waiting for you at Panguitch Lake, a natural 1,250-acre lake surrounded by forests and lava flows. The lake, just like the city, derives its name from the Paiute Indian word meaning, “Big Fish”, which gives you a hint to what's waiting for you in the waters, so make sure you bring the poles! Leaving Panguitch, take US-89 N to UT-20 W, and merge onto I-15 N. In a little over an hour, you should arrive at our next Utah RV camping destination; Beaver. Sitting on the northern edge of Utah's spectacular Color Country, Beaver sometimes goes unnoticed to many travelers who often whiz by towards larger locations, but this area is packed with many outdoor wonders worth exploring. There is no place better for those seeking a quieter locale, and Beaver is the perfect year-round destination retreat for hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting, and a laundry list of other great adventures. Visitors will find the famous 230-mile Paiute Trail here, and a great opportunity for the ultimate ATV excursion. In the winter months, many come to Beaver to escape the crowded ski areas and enjoy snowmobiling and some spectacular Alpine and Nordic skiing in peace and near solitude. Surrounded by so much scenic and awe-inspiring beauty, Beaver is a well-kept secret in this area. Back-tracking a little on I-15 S, a little over an hour's drive will bring you to our next scenic Utah RV camping stop; Cedar City. This large and gorgeous city sits on the edge of flat rangeland next to the heavily forested highland of the Markagunt Plateau, and is a convenient base for exploring the countryside. In warmer months, this area is the perfect place for hiking, biking, fishing, ATV and horseback riding, and the winter months bring a wealth of powdery snow and some of the best skiing in the world. For those lucky enough to visit in late summer, Cedar City comes alive with the extremely popular Utah Shakespearean Festival which brings visitors from the four corners and then some! The last one tank trip stop on our whirlwind adventure is St. George, a city known affectionately as “Utah's Dixie”. Continue on I-15 S, and it will get you there in no time. St. George is an incredible city boasting a beautifully temperate climate, making it the perfect location for year-round golf, camping, hiking, boating, fishing and much, much more. St. George is filled with many historic buildings waiting to be explored, plenty of shopping opportunities, and wonderful restaurants to tempt your taste buds. Downtown visitors will find the St. George Tabernacle and the summer home of Brigham Young, both of which should be high on the list of places to visit. Also notable is the sprawling Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum that will delight you with their many detailed dioramas of over 300 species. There is a saying about Utah: “If you can't do it here, it's probably not worth doing.” For the outdoor enthusiast, Utah is a mecca of recreational activities, surrounded by the beauty of alpine wilderness, majestic plateaus, natural stone arches, canyons with deep, rich red colors, and views so spectacular, it's impossible not to be awe-struck. Now, all that's worth an extra 10 hours in the day, isn't it? Other Area Sponsors in Utah: Ruby's Inn RV Park & Campground Back to One Tank Trips for 2011 Woodall's Recommended Utah RV Campgrounds
