One Tank Trip for North Texas Camping

Sponsored by: Texas State Parks & Wildlife Dept www.tpwd.state.tx.us J.R. Ewing might be long gone from this area, but Northern Texas is alive and well. This is prairie land, filled with oil wells and cattle that help fuel the economy, but don't let that scare you off! There's a wealth of things to do in Texas, so let's get started! The first stop on our one tank trip is historic Grapevine, and there is no better place to start our journey. Grapevine is a quaint, charming Texas town, nestled between Dallas and Fort Worth, a convenient escape from the daily grind without having to go very far to do it. Downtown Grapevine is filled with lovely shops, an incredible array of restaurants, and quite a few tasting rooms that showcase some of Texas' finest wines. That's right, they make wine in Texas, so be sure to arrange for a little sample. You won't be disappointed! If you're looking to get in a few holes, you've come to the right place, as there are several nice golf courses to choose from in this area. Or, take a trip to beautiful Lake Grapevine, which boasts 8,000-plus acres of outdoor recreation possibilities, including hiking, fishing and boating. For a little town, there sure is a lot to do! For our next Northern Texas RV camping stop, we're heading to the hustle and bustle of Fort Worth. Taking Hwy 26 S out of Grapevine, to US-820 W will lead you into the heart of this great city. With a wonderful mix of cowboys and culture, Fort Worth is a city you won't soon forget. Fort Worth has an impressive amount of restaurants, shopping opportunities, and museums, like the Cattle Raisers Museum. If you've ever wanted to know what it was like in the early days of six-shooters and cow punching, look no further. Artifacts, photos, and film tell the amazing history of Fort Worth, and the people who settled here. Want to live the cowboy way? How about the world's only daily cattle drive, where the Old West comes alive along Exchange Avenue? You don't want to miss this one! Heading out of Forth Worth via US-30 east it’s a straight shot to the equally grand city of Dallas. Welcome to the number one traveler destination in Texas, and what a destination! A major center for oil and gas, Dallas is also known for it's incredible cultural and entertainment district. Old City Park is a wonderful historical village sitting on 13 acres just south of downtown, and a perfect place to view many Victorian Era homes, and other restored structures. You've never seen any zoo like the Dallas Zoo! With 95 acres to explore, it's one exciting experience after another. Founded in 1888, it's also the first zoological park in the Southwest, and worth every minute you spend exploring. Leaving Dallas, take US-20 E to our next Northern Texas RV camping stop, Canton. Canton is a town that moves much slower than Dallas or Fort Worth, but is popular for the First Monday Trade days. Open the first weekend of every month, thousands of bargain shoppers flock looking for some great deals, and to wander around and have a look at some of the most interesting and rare collectibles found anywhere. Started over 150 years ago as a flea market, the Trade Days has slowly morphed into something much bigger and grander than ever imagined. First time visitors are usually left speechless, but always return again and again! For our last one tank trip location, continue on US-20 E out of Canton, and right to the heart of Tyler. The city of Tyler is most famous as the Rose Capital of America, with one out of every five roses sold in North America coming from in and around this lovely town. A botanical lovers dream, Tyler is host to the Texas Rose Festival, as well as the Azalea Trails event, which is a walking tour of local residents gardens. This area is also well known for its prime location to numerous lakes and parks that offer plenty of recreational opportunities. Texas is a state widely known for doing things big, and that seems to be the case with just about everything that goes on here, especially in the hospitality and friendliness towards travelers from far and wide. The great expanse of this state is sure to draw you in, and the kindness of those lucky enough to call Texas home is sure to blow you away!
