One Tank Trip for Pennsylvania Camping

From its confluence of three rivers, Pennsylvania lures travelers with a wealth of historic attractions, craggy mountain ranges like the Allegheny and Appalachians, and the beauty of Dutch Country, represented by a large Amish and Mennonite communities. Not to be outdone, Mother Nature makes a brilliant display here in every corner of the state with dramatic colors (especially in the fall), and enough outdoor recreation to keep Pennsylvania at the top of your list. There is no place better to start our one tank trip than in Lancaster, right in the heart of Pennsylvania's Dutch Country. Visitors here will find a beautiful blend of old world charm and modern day attractions, most notably the wonders of the Amish Farm and House, the Mennonite Information Center, and the Lancaster Quilt and Textile Museum. At each location, visitors can familiarize themselves with the Amish people who call this area home and the simplicity with which they live their lives. Well known for its covered bridges, this area has an abundance of these beauties to drive through, explore, and photograph. For the kiddies - or just the young at heart - stop by Dutch Wonderland, a kingdom for the little ones to enjoy over 30 kid-friendly rides, plenty of live entertainment, and a bunch of memories to be made. The next stop on our Pennsylvania RV camping journey is the city of York, less than an hours drive on US-30 W. If you've ever had an interest in colonial or Revolutionary War history, you've come to the right place. Surrounded by the beauty of rolling hills and several Amish communities, this city was once America's first capital, a history you can trace through the amazing architecture downtown, which spans two and a half centuries. It's here you'll find the Colonial Courthouse, the place where the Continental Congress signed the Articles of Confederation in 1777. Another not to miss attraction is the Central Market, where locals and visitors have been shopping for more than a century. For the outdoor enthusiasts, golf, cycling and kayaking are just a few of the offerings to be found here. Leaving York on I-83 N, continue on through the scenic Dutch countryside, and in less than an hour you will have arrived at the final destination of our one tank trip, Harrisburg. Located on the beautiful Susquehanna River, Harrisburg has been the capital of Pennsylvania since 1812. Exquisite examples of Victorian, Antebellum, Tudor and Georgian styles can be found throughout the diverse neighborhoods within the city. The crowning jewel is the city's capitol building whose dome dominates the skyline, and was inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Visitors are offered the opportunity to board an old-fashioned paddlewheeler and take a lazy cruise down the Susquehanna River, and Harrisburg's streets are lined with small shops, quaint cafes, and beautiful old buildings; the perfect place to leisurely stroll, grab some lunch, or look for a great bargain or perfect souvenir to remind you of your trip to this incredible city. If you've never been to the Keystone State, you don't know what you've been missing! Full of history and beauty, Pennsylvania is hard to resist, whether it's your first time or your hundredth. Give Pennsylvania RV camping the chance to charm you once, and guaranteed it will charm you again and again. Back to One Tank Trips for 2011 Woodall's Recommended Pennsylvania RV Campgrounds
