One Tank Trip for Oregon Camping

Left largely unspoiled, Oregon prides itself on its wild and serene reputation. Visitors here will never go without some incredible sight to see, a powdery slope to master, a challenging river to kayak, or another hill to hike. One thing is for sure, a visit to Oregon will make you wish you had at least 10 more hours in a day to experience all that this beautiful and rugged state has to offer. Our one tank trip through Oregon starts along the coast in Lincoln City. For those that have never been to this particular area of Oregon, you don't know what you've been missing! The coast of Oregon is nothing, if not striking. Miles and miles of sandy beaches, evergreen trees, and fresh clean air - the perfect place to relax and unwind. The beautiful mix of sea, beach, marshlands, coastal forest, rocky cliffs and hills also create the perfect habitat for bird viewing along the coast. Most notable are the peregrine falcon and the delicate murre. But there is a host of other beautiful species to be seen along the coast, and the mild temperate climate here makes it perfect for year-round viewing. Lincoln City also boasts several biking trails, and more than a few of the most scenic and breathtaking hiking trails in the country, so be sure to bring your hiking shoes! Heading out on US-101 N, in less than an hour you will arrive at our next Oregon RV camping stop, Pacific City. This incredible area is perfect for more than a few activities, including fishing, beachcombing, and if you're feeling really brave, hang gliding. The view on the ground is amazing, but from the air it has to be jaw-dropping! A visit to the Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge should be a high on the list for the nature observer. This beautiful area supports one-tenth of the world's Dusky Canada Goose population and contains at least seven types of habitat. The Cape Meares Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to view whales, watch offshore rocks for native birds, and hike through many of the trails located here. Make sure you check out the lighthouse during your visit; there's a rumor that it just might be haunted! Continuing our one tank trip on US-101 N, another short drive up the coast will bring you to Netarts, our next Oregon RV camping destination. Netarts is a tiny seaside town, but there is a wealth of fun to be had here! Located on the Three Capes Scenic Loop, the area is a popular destination for scuba diving, fishing, crabbing, clamming, boating, and another great spot to do some bird watching. Moving on, head back to US-101 N for a short drive continuing up the stunning coast to our next place of interest, Cannon Beach. This charming city is nestled between the Coast Mountain range, and the Pacific Ocean, offering some spectacular views and some amazing outdoor recreation opportunities. The most distinguishing landmark of the area is the Haystack Rock, a marvel of nature towering 235 ft above sea level, and just off the shoreline. Surfing, biking, golfing, horseback riding, swimming and hiking are just a few of the things you will enjoy during your visit. In town, visitors will enjoy wonderful restaurants, and an abundance of local art galleries featuring glass, photography and sculptures. Returning to US-101 N, our last one tank trip destination is less than an hour away at Warrenton. Beautifully situated at both the mouth of the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast, Warrenton is the perfect place to relax, bask in the scenery or enjoy a wealth of outdoor recreation. For the history buff, you'll find the winter headquarters of Lewis and Clark: Fort Stevens. Built in 1863 during the Civil War, Fort Stevens remained in service until World War II, and is definitely worth exploring. Warrenton also offers travelers many opportunities for boating, birdwatching, hiking, fishing, and contains several equestrian trails waiting to be explored. The Oregon Coast is stunning, and no matter what you're looking for, whether it's to relax and slow your pace, or plunge headlong into a whirlwind of recreational activities, you'll find it here, and a whole lot more.
