One Tank Trip for New York Camping

Situated in the northeast corner of the US, New York is home to spectacular and diverse landscapes, as well as diverse cultures and cities. New York City is a natural tourist draw for travelers across the globe, and for good reason. But if you extend yourself past the hustle-and-bustle of this major metropolitan city, you'll find the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains, charming cities and towns, and a wealth of outdoor activities. Beginning our one tank trip in one of the most breathtaking areas of the state, the village of Lake George is ideally located at the edge of the Adirondack Mountains, and perched at the mouth of the lake from which the town was named; Lake George provides outdoor enthusiasts and anglers with endless recreation possibilities. With approximately 32 miles of beautiful water, it's no wonder canoers, kayakers, fishermen, and sailors flock to this area. Scuba divers love to explore the depths of the lake where historic shipwrecks abound. If you're looking to soak up some rays, make sure you bring plenty of sunblock! Million Dollar Beach is the place you'll want to lay out your towel and work on your tan. Inside the city, the power shopper will find the several factory outlet stores are just the place to keep them busy finding the next great bargain. Our next New York RV camping stop is equally as beautiful and serene as our first, and a short trip on I-87 N, taking the exit for US-9, and a slight left at NY-73 W will get you there before you can say, “Two time host of the Winter Olympics”. Lake Placid is a city proud of its heritage, and proud to have been the host of two Winter Olympic games. It's at this very location in 1932 that Sonja Henie won her second gold medal, and inspired many little girls to become figure skaters themselves. Who could forget the “Miracle on Ice” when the 1980 US hockey team pulled off one of the biggest upsets in history by defeating the Soviet Union. A visit to the Olympic Sports Complex just might be the thing to awaken the athlete in you. Test your skills at downhill and cross country skiing, take a heart stopping bobsled ride, or get a few lessons to see if you have what it takes to be a biathlete. After a day of adventure, stop in at any number of the restaurants, spas and shops that will tempt you with their relaxing services, delicious food, or interesting wares. Heading to our New York RV camping last stop - Saranac Lake - take NY-86 W, and in less than a half hour you will have arrived. For the outdoor enthusiast, Saranac Lake is like paradise, loaded with hiking trails, canoe routes and plenty of outfitters to help you along your adventure. Other notable attractions (depending on the season) are golf, downhill and cross-country skiing, and cycling. If you're looking for something a little quieter and maybe a little more relaxed, Saranac Lake has an array of unique shops and restaurants that tempt the shopper and the palate. Literary types shouldn't leave this area without perusing the Robert Louis Stevenson cottage, and for the train enthusiast, a trip along the Adirondack Scenic Railroad is sure to bowl you over with spectacular views of the mountains that surround this area. The Adirondacks have been luring visitors for centuries, long before there was the wealth of activities to be found there now. The delicate beauty, pristine lakes, and its promise to help any traveler shed the worries of the daily grind make it an easy draw for those looking to relax, wind down and recharge.
