One Tank Trip for Minnesota Camping

Known as the “Land of Ten Thousand Lakes”, Minnesota is a virtual outdoor paradise, attracting thrill seekers, wilderness lovers and anglers alike. With warm, friendly locals, and spectacular beauty, a visit to this great state just might have you hook, line and sinker! The perfect start for our one tank trip today is the charming town of Chisholm. Located in the northeast part of the state, Chisholm provides travelers with ample recreation, including hiking, mountain biking, boating and fishing - this is the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes, remember! Also notable is the Minnesota Museum of Mining and the Minnesota Discover Center, where visitors can learn the fascinating mining past of Chisholm and the surrounding area. The next stop on our one tank trip takes us to Duluth, via US-169 N. Turn right to merge onto US-53 S. Take the ramp to I-35 N, keeping left. Duluth clocks in at approximately an hour and 45 minutes away from Chisholm. Located on the western-most tip of massive Lake Superior, it is no wonder travelers are drawn to this area in droves, not only for the water recreation found here, but also for the incredible beauty. One very unique attraction in Duluth is Canal Park, which showcases an aerial life bridge that rises to allow massive vessels to enter the harbor. Tours are available that highlight these huge vessels, and is something you won't want to pass up during your visit. You'll also want to make time to stop by the Great Lakes Aquarium. It's the only fresh water aquarium in the US, and a place the whole family will enjoy! Our next Minnesota RV camping location is Two Harbors, less than an hour drive on MN-61 N. Considered by many to be the Gateway to the North Shore, Two Harbors is an awesome location for those looking to do some exceptional hiking, or indulge in some great fishing. A trip to Gooseberry Falls, located along the North Shore, will bring you face-to-face with a spectacular view of the Gooseberry River that drops approximately 90 feet as it cascades over the upper and lower falls. It is the featured attraction at the park, and one you should definitely experience for yourself. At Split Rock State Park, there are many more hiking opportunities, and visitors will also find Split Rock Lighthouse here. It is one of Minnesota's best-known landmarks, and fully restored to the beauty of its original 1920s appearance. Return to MN-61 N for the short trip along the breathtaking coast to our final Minnesota RV camping destination, Beaver Bay. Once the most active harbor along the North Shore, Beaver Bay was the first established community on the Minnesota shore of Lake Superior. The pace has slowed somewhat in Beaver Bay, but don't let that fool you; it's still a fantastic location for a variety of outdoor activity including biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and the winter months always bring their own chilly fun along the North Shore with snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and dog sledding! The Land of Ten Thousand Lakes is one of those special states, that no matter how many times you've visited, you'll always find something wonderful, unique, and special to bring you back.
