One Tank Trip for North Florida Camping

North Florida contains some of the oldest settlements in the state, as well as in all of the US. The number one tourist destination in the world welcomes millions every year to soak up the sun, tee up, bird watch and fish, and with year-round mild temperatures in most of the state, millions more seek it out as part of their permanent vacation. Today we start our one tank trip in St. Augustine, the nation's oldest city, and one filled with a deep rooted history and unparalleled beauty. Throughout the city, St. Augustine continues to pay homage to its past with several attractions. If you're looking for a hands-on approach to history, stop by the Old Florida Museum where visitors get the chance to write with a quill pen or work on an Indian dug out canoe. Don't miss a visit to The Castillo de San Marcos. Built to protect the Spaniards’ claim to the New World, it is an architectural wonder, and the oldest masonry and only extant 17th century fort in North America. The Fort Matanzas National Monument is another fascinating place worth exploring, and was also built under Spanish rule. The city of St. Augustine is filled with amazing sights to study, and a very colorful and enduring history to fall in love with. Moving on, take US-1 S along the breathtaking coast to our next stop, Palm Coast. A unique city lush in native trees and an old Florida feel, this city is full of charm, with beautiful canals that move both salt and freshwater through this area. Palm Coast has several championship golf courses to test your skills, as well as several tennis courts. And of course, there is plenty of fishing and boating to go around! A charter is the best way to try your fishing skills, and offers the chance to catch blue marlin, king mackerel, wahoo, and many others. Many travelers come here for the quiet and serene nature of this area, and to get away from the stress of everyday life. A little further down US-1 S, we arrive at our next North Florida RV camping stop, Flagler Beach. Another beautiful and peaceful place, Flagler Beach is reminiscent of old Florida. Travelers can immerse themselves in kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, birdwatching and fishing. Flagler Beach is one of those rare, virtually untouched places where the peace that surrounds it moves through you, instantly relaxing and calming you. Continuing on scenic US-1 S, the next North Florida RV camping destination is Ormond Beach. Once home to the likes of John D. Rockefeller, as well as many early auto pioneers who tested their inventions here, Ormond Beach celebrates its racing heritage annually with reenactments of the early days of racing on the beach. Visitors should tour the former winter home of Rockefeller, and then sprint outdoors for some fun in the sun. Can you feel the ground shake? Earthquake? Nope, but close! A little further down US-1 S leads us to every racing fans dream; Daytona Beach. If you have the need for speed, make sure you make a stop to the raceway for some heart pounding, earth shaking racing: it's an experience you won't soon forget! Every racing fan should pay a visit to the Halifax Historical Museum, a fascinating place where you can trace the history of auto racing. Ponce Inlet is well known as a surfer’s haven, drawing crowds who can't wait to paddle out and ride some waves. Travelers should visit Florida's tallest lighthouse, which is located here, and if you can handle the 203 steps to the top, you will be aptly rewarded with an amazing 360-degree view of the Atlantic. Don't worry, the trip down is much easier! Heading to our last one tank trip stop, we continue down the coast on US-1 S to New Smyrna Beach. Quaint New Smyrna has a wonderful historic hometown feel, and its harbors are a reminder of the Sugar Mill Ruins. Apollo Beach is part of the extensive and beautiful Canaveral National Seashore, which is all-natural and remains minimally developed. Visitors will enjoy walking the many trails, and participating in many of the water sports offered, making this the perfect spot to end our adventure. Florida has much to offer visitors: endless sun, sandy beaches and the incredible beauty that surrounds this state make it hard to stay away. Long after you've gone, you'll be trying to figure out how soon you can get back!
