One Tank Trip for Central Florida Camping

Sponsored by: Myakka RV Resort - KOA www.myakkarv.com [email protected] The Sunshine State is a destination high on the list for many travelers. Endless blue skies, months of warm weather, and miles of beaches make this beautiful state irresistible for even the most jaded traveler. Oh, and did I mention it's also home to Disney World, the largest amusement park on the planet? Grab your sandals, and don't forget the sunscreen, we're off to explore Central Florida RV camping! Located on the beautiful coast of the Atlantic, Titusville is a popular destination for travelers seeking many of the year-round recreation activities available, including fishing, swimming, canoeing, surfing, and hiking on many of the nature and historical trails offered at the Canaveral National Seashore. Stretching approximately 24 miles, it is the longest stretch of undeveloped public beach on the east coast, drawing thousands for it's scenic beauty and ecological and historic value. If you find yourself staring up at the stars at night, wondering exactly what is out there in all that wide-open space, you might find some answers by paying a visit to the Cape Canaveral Space Center. Here you can explore the early beginnings of space exploration, and the most recent leaps in technology. Walk through a full-scale replica of a shuttle obiter, see real moon rocks, and be blown away by movies seen on the giant IMAX screen. Cape Canaveral shares space with the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, which consists of 140,000 acres of coastal dunes, saltwater estuaries, pine flatwoods and hardwood hammocks that provide a home to more than 1,500 species of plants and animals. There are many recreation opportunities provided at the Refuge, including bird and wildlife observation, a manatee observation deck, as well as hunting and fishing. Our next Central Florida RV camping destination is Orlando; a short but scenic drive on US-50 W will get you there in no time. Travelers here will find the world famous Walt Disney World Resort, which includes four major theme parks-Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney MGM Studios and Disney Animal Kingdom. More than just attractions, this giant amusement park is an adventure, welcoming visitors from across the globe and from all age groups for a unique and exhilarating experience. What's a visit to Florida without some up close and personal time with gators? Pay a visit to Gatorland, a protected habitat, a 110-acre theme park, and a nature conservatory, complete with breeding marsh, boardwalk and observation tower - it is the best and safest way to learn about these incredible creatures, and one of the few places you can observe some good ol' fashioned gator wrestlin'! Sea World, home of Shamu the killer whale, offers visitors some amazing fun with aquarium exhibits, thrill rides, and water shows. Don't forget to jump aboard the Wild Arctic helicopter while you're there for an amazing view of the North Pole exhibit, where polar bears run and play in their very own recreated environment. A less than 2-hour drive on US-50 W will bring you to our next one tank trip destination, Brooksville. Nestled among rolling hills and wide open spaces, and with Withlacoochee State Forest as it's back yard, this quaint town is just the thing we need to slow it down a bit after the nonstop fun in Orlando. Nearby Homosassa Spring State Wildlife Park is what draws most visitors, and a place where you can discover the real Florida with sightseeing tours, fishing and snorkeling, and many other outdoor activities. Now that we've rested a bit, let's continue our one tank trip by getting onto US-19 S, and merge onto I-275 E to Tampa. One of the most beautiful and exotic locations in Florida, Tampa Bay is filled with breathtaking views, and has a little of everything you're looking for. Tampa is home to the beautiful Busch Garden & Theme Park, where visitors can have up-close and personal encounters with some amazing creatures, or set off on a safari on the Serengeti Plains, or feel your heart jump out of your chest on one of the many coasters here. For a purely exotic experience, visitors should head over to Tampa's Latin Quarter, Ybor City. Once a cigar manufacturing center, the city is one of only two National Historic Landmark Districts in the Sunshine State, and a great place to discover the delightful Latin culture that has left it's mark throughout this area. Watch experienced artisans roll their handmade cigars, and have a cup of that famous Cuban coffee while you relax in the sun. Moving along down I-275 S, our next Central Florida RV camping stop is Tampa's sister city, St. Petersburg. A city with as much grace, style and sophistication as her sister across the bay, this amazing city is well known for its beautiful emerald waters, never ending outdoor recreation, and its ability to weave a tropical spell on anyone who happens to be traveling through. The Salvador Dali Museum is a must see for culture seekers, and houses the world's largest collected works of the great Surrealist artist. At the St. Petersburg Museum of History, you can retrace the history of this city and surrounding areas. Another must see for culture buffs is the Sunken Gardens. The oldest living museum, this lovely 100-year-old garden is home to some of the oldest tropical plants within the region. A wonderful place for a stroll among the more than 50,000 plants, this peaceful and serene garden also has cascading waterfalls, and offers tours. Back on I-275 S, we are headed to our last one tank trip destination, Sarasota. Sarasota, although not as big as the other cities on our trip, has a wonderful concentration of culture and outdoor fun that you can enjoy for a few sweet days or for years. The Ringling Museum, one of the most remarkable museums in the world, calls Sarasota home, and should be placed high on your list of things to see here. Built by John Ringling, of the Ringling Bros. fame, the collection houses many incredible pieces of art, and as a bonus, on the 66 acre grounds there is also a theater and two circus museums. The possibilities for fun and excitement in this exquisite state are endless. The sand, sun and warm tropical breezes have a way of turning the most serious traveler into a run away hedonist!
