One Tank Trip for Connecticut Camping

Don't shy away from Connecticut because of its size. As the third smallest state, it might be a little more than a dot on a map, but within its borders lays a wealth of rural landscapes, colonial villages, and beautiful coastal villages. With such an inspiring landscape, it's not surprising that Mark Twain wrote his greatest work here, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. Who knows what inspiration a visit to this incredible state will give you? Our one tank trip starts off in Clinton, a charming New England town overlooking the Long Island Sound. Like many coastal New England towns, life centers around shipbuilding, farming and fishing, these activities can still be enjoyed as a leisurely pursuit in the Sound. Visitors can also enjoy hiking on the many trails in Peters Memorial Woods, where you can test yourself and your endurance on one of the more physically demanding trails, or leisurely stroll and enjoy the beauty of the New England countryside. From Clinton, we continue our one tank trip by heading to Old Lyme via US-1 N with a merge onto I-95 N. Exit onto CT-156 E, and in no time, you'll be right in the heart of our next Connecticut RV camping stop! Filled with beautiful old buildings, Old Lyme is a great place to spend a few days, particularly if you're found of art and art history. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Old Lyme was a favorite to many painters, and if you stop by the art museum (which is also the former home of Miss Florence Griswold), you'll be treated to some of the finest American Impressionist works to be found anywhere. For our next Connecticut RV camping stop, take I-95 N out of Old Lyme. After several miles, exit left for CT-184/CT-12 and after several miles, merge onto CT-184 E and make a left at CT-117 N to arrive at Ledyard Center. For visitors to this sleepy New England town, you'll find surprisingly diverse choices for recreation including wineries, a casino, and Sawmill Park, which spans 11 acres and gives visitors a chance to see a working blacksmith, a gristmill, shingle mill and a mill museum located in a beautifully restored building. The park is open year-round, and to witness the mill in action, plan your trip in April or October. Late fall would be the perfect time to experience the spectacular fall foliage. The brilliant hues are something you won't want miss! As one of the original 13 colonies, Connecticut just seems to keep getting better with age. With an amazing coastline, several wonderful historical sites, and various renowned museums, it's easy to see why Connecticut is one of the most visited states in the nation.
