One Tank Trip for Alabama Camping

The Heart of Dixie is nestled firmly between Mississippi and Georgia, and shares a long and interesting past. The birthplace of the Confederacy, and the state which first brought to light the Civil Rights Movement, Alabama is known for its diverse geography and its wonderful Southern Hospitality. Visitors here are encouraged to slow down, relax, and ask, “what's the rush?” Our Alabama camping trip begins in Mobile, once the first capital of colonial French Louisiana in 1702, it is also one of the 14th oldest cities in the United States. For its first 100 years, Mobile was a colony of France, then Britain and lastly Spain, and the influence of these early landlords can still be seen in the architecture throughout the city. Located on the Mobile Bay, the very first organized celebration of Mardi Gras was celebrated here, and the party continues to this day. It's here visitors will find one of the most unique military attractions in the world, the Battleship Memorial Park. You can walk the flight decks of historic vessels, and get a taste of what it was like aboard one of America's most decorated battleships. Don't miss the Bellingrath Gardens on this one tank trips visit! A 65-acre Garden Estate started in 1932, the gardens are always in bloom with beautiful and delicate flowers. A self-guided tour is available for the gardens, as well as at the Bellingrath Home, and it just might be the thing to inspire the gardener in you. For the mad scientist (or just the science enthusiast), The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is the place to entertain you. With more than 150 interactive exhibits, IMAX films, and hands on educational programming, the Science Center is perfect for the whole family to learn about science and the world around us. Leaving Mobile, take I-10 E to Hwy-59 S, and in a little over an hour, you'll arrive at our next one tank trips stop, Gulf Shores. Some of the finest white sand beaches are found here in Gulf Shores. Wait, Alabama has beaches? Oh yes, it does, and nothing can be more relaxing than sitting on the beach, soaking up the rays, and letting all your troubles move out with the tide. A treasure of Alabama, Gulf Shores is a playground for golfing, fishing, water sports, and numerous other outdoor recreations. Pay a visit to the historic Fort Morgan while you're here. The site of the Civil War battle of Mobile Bay, this incredibly large brick structure took 15 years to build, and was completed in 1834. Servicing both the Civil and Spanish-American Wars, it is touted as one of the finest examples of military architecture in the world. The craftsmanship alone is a marvel for it's time, and shouldn't be missed on any trip to this area. There are many cruise companies that offer dolphin excursions, and any visit to Gulf Shores wouldn't be complete without joining one. Get up close and personal with the beautiful porpoises that call the Gulf home, and depending on the company, you just might get the chance to go snorkeling or the opportunity for a midnight rendezvous with these delightful creatures. Many visitors will also enjoy Waterville, USA. The largest water park in the area, and the perfect place for a cool down, the park is 20 acres of nonstop wet fun. The wave machine produces gigantic waves, and the lazy river is just the place to sit back and relax in the sun. A great place for the whole family, and well worth an Alabama camping visit. No matter the reason you pay a visit to Alabama, whether for some much needed rest, or the thrill of a lifetime, Alabama has the thing you're looking for, and much, much more.
