Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island (PEI) shimmers with seaside natural beauty, historic charm, artistic opportunities, and savvy shoppers’ hideaways. But that’s not all! Upscale urban adventures are also available for tourists visiting the scenic capital city of Charlottetown.
Let’s kick off PEI’s island holiday excursion in Summerside. From there take Hwy 11 east to nearby Reeds Corner and follow the Blue Heron Coastal Drive. Between Summerside and Victoria, browse for antiques and regional arts and crafts, stop for a bite to eat from a nice selection of local restaurants, and stroll through Gateway Village’s assortment of shops. Next, take a round-trip, 20-minute drive over the famed Confederation Bridge that spans the Northumberland Strait. The sky-high view from the 200-foot-tall bridge is amazing!
Take the Trans-Canada Hwy (Hwy 1) south from the bridge, to Crapaud. The adjacent village of Victoria-by-the-Sea, with a population of 200, has charming tearooms and craft shops. You can even attend a candy-making workshop at the Island Chocolates Factory, where delicious Belgian chocolate is handmade.
A detour to Hwy 19 south along the coast takes you to Rocky Point and Port-la-Joye – Fort Amherst National Historic Site. It’s a great stop for a picnic with spectacular views of Charlottetown Harbour.
Once in historic downtown Charlottetown, allow time to walk around the vibrant port and visit Founders’ Hall, a tribute to Prince Edward Island’s metropolitan capital city, “The Birthplace of the Confederation.” Stroll the Victoria Park Boardwalk, go on a boat ride to watch the seals play, play a round of golf at fine local links, and/or tour the Canadian Golf Academy, just outside the capital city of Charlottetown. www.peiplay.com; 888/PEI-PLAY.
