One Tank Trip for Ontario-Northwest Loop Camping

For the angler, this area of Ontario has long been known as the place to be for some of the most incredible fishing experiences imaginable, but it's quickly becoming a getaway for many other outdoor enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in endless outdoor fun, set against landscapes fantastic enough to inspire both poets and painters alike. It's a destination like no other! Our first destination on our one tank trip, North Bay, has been attracting tourists “in the know” for quite some time. Situated near Lake Nipissing, water sport enthusiasts venture here to go boating, water skiing, and kayaking in the summer, while in the winter the Laurentian Ski Hill is a big draw to snowboarders and skiers. No matter what time of year, there’s plenty of opportunity to stretch your legs along the miles upon miles of trails near the waterfront. Getting out on the road, the next leg of your Ontario RV camping journey takes you through 160 miles of mountains, grassy plains, and past beautiful rivers and streams. Highway 17 takes you east from North Bay to your next stop, Renfrew. Sitting beside the banks of the Bonnechere River, this quaint and friendly town is a frequent stopover point for visitors on their way to Ottawa. Whitewater rafting, golfing, and fishing are prevalent in the more temperate months, but in the winter you’ll have a great time skiing, snowboarding, or just rolling around in the snow. Renfrew stages a variety of festivals throughout the year, including Valleyfest, a multiple-day event that celebrates over a century of Renfrew’s contributions to the logging industry, and September’s Renfrew Fair, which provides rides, attractions, and vendors with all types of food and live music. Get your camera ready, because the next leg of your one tank trip takes you along 150 miles of Ontario’s back country, where all kinds of wildlife can be seen grazing by the roadside. At the end of this westbound cruise down Highway 60, your final Ontario RV Camping stop on the route awaits: Huntsville. Somebody really knew what they were doing when they decided to build this town next to the Muskoka River, because not only are the water views gorgeous, but you can also rent a kayak or small boat from any of the local rental shops and spend some time testing your skill against the river, or just kick back along its banks in a lawn chair and a good book. If you didn’t come prepared for an activity you’d like to try, there’s no shortage of outfitters to fill in the blanks. The surrounding wilderness area is a big hit with hikers and campers, and the town itself has an eclectic array of shops and dining opportunities for when you’re ready for a little city life. This part of Ontario is all about enjoying life’s little pleasures, which are the best and most precious of all. Back to One Tank Trips for 2011 Woodall's Recommended Ontario RV Campgrounds
