Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast wonders include lively museums, steadfast lighthouses, salty sailing adventures, and bountiful doses of Acadian charm.
We begin our seacoast shuffle tour in the southwestern region, at the town of Yarmouth. See an old steam pump fire engine at the Firefighters’ Museum of Nova Scotia and get a glimpse of the area’s seafaring past at Yarmouth County Museum & Archives. Be sure to visit the Yarmouth Lighthouse on Cape Forchu Scenic Drive.
From Yarmouth, travel on Hwy 3 along Nova Scotia’s southern shore, all the way to Halifax with the following stops in Pubnico, Shelburne, and Lunenburg. Experience three centuries of Acadian heritage in Pubnico, and see a charming 1800s-era lighthouse while visiting Nova Scotia’s oldest French settlement at the Village Historique Acadien. In Shelburne’s Historic Dock Street district, browse through unique shops and a multi-purpose art gallery/theatre at Osprey Arts Centre. Be sure to visit Old Town Lunenburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, and go for a breezy voyage on Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador, the Bluenose II schooner replica. Staying the course out of town, be sure to “pop in” for a visit to the unusual post office inside the lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove. Finally, we’ll reach Halifax. Let singers, acrobats, and military bands entertain you at Halifax’s International Tattoo, and later you can discover shipwrecked treasures and Titanic facts at Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. If the weather’s right, you can’t do much better than an afternoon meandering through Halifax’s bloomin’ Public Gardens and Pier 21 National Historic Site, the gateway for Canada’s mid-1900s immigrants.
