We went out on a six week RV trip - from Texas to Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and into South Dakota. Rushmore Shadows Resort was by far our favorite campground! It's a great location. The grounds are nice - we had a great campsite, the staff is friendly and helpful. There was a well kept mini golf course on site as well as a pool and pickle ball court. There were so many interesting things to see and do in the nearby area. Great feel to the place, kept nice and tidy and inviting.

Stayed two nights in Class A with toad to see the local sites, etc. As other reviewers noted, there are gravel, tight, high turn over sites. And then there are much larger paved "fancy" sites. We were apparently not deemed fancy. Site was long enough gravel level-ish. Stay was fine. Would have rated it higher if they would space campers out a bit.

This park had both paved concrete pad sites and gravel sites, not sure how they determine what site you will be assigned. When making our reservations I was told they do not assign sites in advance and they cannot promise a pull through. This park is expensive, it cost us $85 + tx a day for a 7 day stay. We were assigned a paved site and this part of the park was beautiful, that is where the positive ends. For a park this size the laundry was to small, only 5 washing machines and no cable TV. We... We did not use the restrooms so we did not rate them. Lots of staff activities, mowing lawns, edging, lots of staff driving around in golf carts, some even driving through the grass area of camp sights in what looked like them checking to see if camp fires were out. What we did not like is the amount of full time residents, as this park is pushing a membership. Some members told us the cost was around 5K with an annual maintenance fee. for that you could stay free 21 days at a time. Not sure why all the full time residents if you could only stay 21 days at a time. We travel with a dog and love dogs but lots of full timers had multiple dogs, we saw 2, 3, and even 4 dogs in camps. The one next to us had 4 dogs and they barked all day even when the campers were home. The worst part of this facility was the number of campers that walked though other peoples camps, even when they were in camp, the most rude thing we have seen during our 2 month trip. This did not happen one time it seemed like a normal occurrence at this facility. when we questioned someone walking through our camp they simply replied " we are just walking to our camp" and continued on. With all the camp staff around no one from the facility ever said anything to these rude people.

There were paved sites and gravel sites. After calling many times and being told to get there early for a 50 amp pull through site, we were assigned a gravel site very close to other trailers. No large RV's like ours. The table by the small grass area was old, paint peeling etc. It was noisy. Seemed like if they want you to join their membership they would put you in a better site. We felt like we were in the forgotten part of the park. There was no room for outside eating or chairs because... Read More

For the $70. a night fee, we felt it was overpriced for the site we got. After requesting another site, we got no help. It was a busy time, but we had our reservation for over 3 months. Would look elsewhere next time.

Rushmore Shadows resort just outside of Mt Rushmore in Rapid City, SD. Never will I stay here again. While the pads are spacious and concrete (in the section we were in) there were VERY unlevel. So much so that my front two tires lifted off the ground several inches. Tried two sites and both had the same issue. There is another section of the park on gravel that may have been better. Many kids activities (pool, horseshoe, basketball court, volleyball, mini golf etc..). Laundry and baths... Read More

We stayed here 2 nights and it was very conveniently located to both Mt Rushmore and Crazyhorse. We arrived after midnight and a packet had been left for us with a map to find our site and all the info we needed - they were very organized. The restrooms were extremely clean as were the showers, however there was no hot water when we tried to shower. We liked this place as it had everything we needed and would definitely stay there again.

We stopped here due to many billboards claiming $39.95/night. This was not true it was over $70/night. Although the campground was about half empty they put another RV right next to us. The water supply line was inches away from the sewer line and electrical, indicating they were all placed in the same trench. Sewer and water cannot be placed in the same trench as it is a major building/health code violation. The picnic table the neighbors had was positioned almost on top of our hook-ups. The hot... The hot tub was gross. It had been painted and was dirty. The deck along the edge of the pool was very slick, my wife slipped and almost fell when checking the temperature. On the plus side the wooded section was very beautiful. All the same we do not like being tricked into making a reservation. We are grateful that out of the 29 places we've stayed on this trip this was the only disappointment.

We stayed here three nights the first part of June. This is a nice place! Roads to sites are very nice. Wide variety of sites. We got a nice pull-thru that was pretty level. Registration was very easy and staff was super nice. The swimming pool looked fantastic, but didn't swim. The restrooms were very clean and the showers were great! The park is kept Very clean. Really nice place to stay.

This stay was an adventure. First, this RV resort is so clean and beautiful. It makes you feel like as if you are alone on your site as it is so quiet. Even when the kids are playing it was not loud. The sites are spaced perfectly - not too close but also not far away to where you can't meet your neighbor. I loved all the amenities and the staff were absolutely wonderful. Now the adventure part, we came for the fourth of July and the area had severe thunderstorms and even a tornado warning. Not only did the resort inform us but gave us the opportunity to go the community center for shelter. It was a very scary night but the staff made sure we were checked on and even gave us updates via text-messaging. We felt very relieved that we could count on them to help if needed. Overall, I would recommend this resort to my friends as it was a peaceful resort with a helpful staff to be there for your every need. Thank you Rushmore Shadows Resort for a great trip!

I have nothing but great things to say about this park, it's staff, and the facility overall. Great clubhouse with laundry room, showers & restrooms exceptional, but the best thing about this park was the staff. During our stay an snow storm came through the area with over 20" falling overnight which was unusual for this time of the year. The park was completely covered, but the staff kept the roads open through out the park. One side of the park lost power, but the office called us checking on... Read More

The park was completely covered, but the staff kept the roads open through out the park. One side of the park lost power, but the office called us checking on our status, and made the offer to help move us to another location in the park that had power. We chose to stay as moving would have been a lot of work at that point with all the snow on the ground, and on top of our roof & slide outs not to mention it was late in the day. We had plenty of propane for heat, cooking, and hot water to endure. The power was restored before night fall after all. The staff again came by the next morning to check on our status. When it came time to check out they brought over an bobcat to clear out an path. You can't beat this park, it is one of the finest RV Parks & staff of any I've ever stayed during my cross country travels.

We booked 2 nights here because of it's close proximity to Mount Rushmore. I was surprised to be charged the full rate of $70/day due to the park being at about 25% capacity and features such as the pool being closed. We came to see Mount Rushmore but the weather didn't cooperate, it started snowing and raining with thick fog for 4 days. We decided to wait out the weather and were going to move down the road a few miles to a less expensive park. My wife called the front desk and asked for a "inclement... Read More

We decided to wait out the weather and were going to move down the road a few miles to a less expensive park. My wife called the front desk and asked for a "inclement weather stay extension deal". The management offered us 3 more nights for $42 total if we agreed to sit through a 90 minute sales presentation. They knew we had no interest in buying into their pre-paid vacation package but allowed us to sit in for the discounted additional 3 nights. We actually enjoyed the presentation giving us something more to do while waiting for the fog to lift. The park is secure with the gate closing a 5PM with guests having a access code. Expensive if you're not one of their members but a really nice park with friendly staff.

We went to Rushmore Shadows because we needed a place convenient to Rapid City. We got a very good package deal to stay that required us to sit through a 90 minute presentation to buy into Midwest Outdoor Resorts. We were not pressured to buy (which was a relief). The resort has a pool that is way to small for the size of the resort and miniature golf. Our site was not concrete because we were placed in the older section with trees. If you can stand a 90 minute presentation, it's worth it because the nightly rate is around $70.

Very nice RV park with a great location. The sites are concrete and plenty long enough for a full size RV and tow vehicle. The park offers OK wi-fi with the standard bathroom/laundry facilities. We will definitely stay at this park again. See our pictures and full review at www.thegilliamsisland.com.

Great putt putt golf for the family. Beautiful grounds to walk. very clean. Nice pool and plenty to do activities around the area. Not far from Mt. Rushmore and that is why we were there.

Nice park and close to attractions that we wanted to visit in the area. Our site was in a newer part of the park for larger RVs. No trees, etc. but large sites and easy to navigate. Nice amenities such as the pool and miniature golf. Wifi only worked when we were at the office. My Verizon Mifi did work well. I would recommend this park and would stay here again.

I don't know why this park as such a high rating. The location is good but that is it. They put us in the new section which is right as your come into the park. The sites were recently done but no grass and it poured rain the day before and the concrete pads were full of mud. We checked out the interior of the park where the majority of the campers stayed and it was extremely crowded and not much space between the sites. My wife and I are members of this campground network. Even though I live just 30 miles away from this campground, it's a great retreat for us. Good clean and quiet. Easy access to Black Hills and Rapid City. This Winter I think they are adding sites as well. I like it compared because there is good room between the sites
