We stayed 4 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a return trip after an extended period. Things have changed mostly due to vegetation growth. The park entrance is directly off US-101 just about 2 miles North of Bandon or about 20 miles South of Coos Bay, But the access road from the highway to the campground is narrow with sharp blind turns making towing a trailer a challenge. The final turn into the campground is almost more than 180 degrees. The interior roads of the 3 loops are... Read More

The park entrance is directly off US-101 just about 2 miles North of Bandon or about 20 miles South of Coos Bay, But the access road from the highway to the campground is narrow with sharp blind turns making towing a trailer a challenge. The final turn into the campground is almost more than 180 degrees.
The interior roads of the 3 loops are paved. Only C loop is open this time of year. The loop was pretty close to full. The roads seem narrow possibly due to the parked vehicle encroachment, tree overhang & tight turns making maneuvering larger RV’s a little challenging.
All of the sites are back-ins. The sites can be used for RV and/or tents. The parking pads appear to be no more than 2’ wider than a trailer. There is some vegetation impact. Some of the sites are a 90 degree turn off the roadway making backing in difficult. A lot of the sites are very short limiting the type of vehicle configuration that can use the site. There is very little over flow parking. There is a fee for extra vehicles.
This park seems to understand the simple concept of the importance of a flat, level site as the sites were generally level and flat. The sites are generally only have water & electricity (50/30/20 AMP). Only a handful along the loop have sewer. The utility connections were towards the rear of the sites. Sites have an outside table & fire pit but this time of the year sitting by the fire takes hardy person. Since this is the coast in the winter time, seeing the sun is not a guarantee.
The extensive tree canopy makes satellite reception difficult to impossible depending upon site selection and dish configuration. Was able to get DISH programing using a portable dish sitting on short stands on the ground. But a nearby site could only get one of the two satellites DISH uses for programing. Only saw 2 sites with a TV satellite dish. Saw more rectangle antennas (Starlink?) both sitting on the ground and elevated positions that didn’t seem to have much access to the sky for satellite reception (especially at a few of the campground host sites) than satellite dishes. A scan for OTA channels using an Air 360+ antenna revealed zero channels.
The park doesn’t have any WiFi so you have to bring your own or go into town. The library was identified as a location for free WiFi. Used the NET10 cellphone to make a call. Reception was adequate to complete the call.
No designated pet areas but there was sufficient room to walk dogs along the roads especially in the closed loops. There were bag dispensers and collection stations for waste generally at the loop entrances/exits. There was only a common trash collection area between the B & C loop near the RV dump site.
Don’t see any reason to return.
Didn't use the restrooms, but had to put in a rating.
TIP: We stayed here to see the X-mas lights at Shore Acres State Park. There was no benefit to staying to see the lights. There is reservation requirement to park at Shore Acres that cost $10.00. It was a long drive to reach Shore Acres. Would not recommend staying here to see the lights. The State has established parking fees at most all beach access parking areas.

Wonderful campground! Most spots are back-ins. Some are full hook-ups, other sites are just electric/water. There is a dump station if you need one. There is a lot of mature vegetation to provide shade and privacy between spots. Each spot had a picnic table. The beach is about a mile away. There is a paved path, so you can bike or walk there if you don't want to drive. The park has a historic lighthouse. Below the lighthouse the beach has a great deal of driftwood. Farther down the beach... Read More

Farther down the beach is all sand. The tides were quite pronounced when we were there, low tide created a very wide beach. The town of Bandon is nearby that has restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations. Bandon also has its own beautiful beach.

For the price, it can't be beat. Close enough for day trips along the Oregon and California coastlines. Town of Bandon, with all of its conveniences, nearby. You won't get a pool, paved lot or cable hookup, but you will get larger more private sites a short drive to a near private beach on the Pacific, and more peace and quiet.
stayed in a fifth wheel. had full hookup. plenty of privacy between sites. quiet time was enforced. had a slight drive to a almost private beach on the pacific ocean. site cost was more than reasonable. much better option that some of the private campgrounds in town that were nothing more than condensed parking lots. close to town, supermarket, gas stations and laundry. would stay again
