Poche Plantation is very overrated by Good Sam. There is no view of the river because it is behind the levee. Furthermore it is surrounded by petroleum and mining facilities. It is not an attractive site. The park appears to be almost entirely inhabited by full timers working at these industrial facilities. When we arrived, there was no evidence of an office. Finally we encountered a park worker. We said we had a reservation. She told us there were no available sites. Finally we were escorted... Read More

Fortunately there was torrential rain prohibiting us from venturing outside our van. Unfortunately the torrential rain flooded the park in the morning delaying our departure by at least four hours. The roads in the park were impassable because of being under 8" of water. It was impossible to tell where the roads were. We made a mistake spending a night here and do not recommend this park.

I chose to visit Poche Plantation because it looked pretty and shady and the pictures of the pool were appealing, in the advertisements. On first appearances, its true. I had planned to spend a lot of time at the pool and there's where the disappointment started. The pool was filthy and the hot tub was cloudy. Talking with management I was told that problem had just started and he wasn't sure what was wrong with it. I thought that was untrue because the bottom hadn't been cleaned in quite a... Read More

I had planned to spend a lot of time at the pool and there's where the disappointment started. The pool was filthy and the hot tub was cloudy. Talking with management I was told that problem had just started and he wasn't sure what was wrong with it. I thought that was untrue because the bottom hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. I was present the next day when a supposed professional pool company was on site. The pool man told me two things of import during my casual conversation with him. He told me that there was cellophane wrapped around leaking pipes, and that he was busy and didn't have time to take care of that pool. While I waited to see if there was going to be any results about the pool I took the time to look around and review my experiences. They couldn't or wouldn't take a reservation. I was told to just roll in. I was lucky there was one spot open when I got there. It wasn't the shady site I had asked for though. The person who was expected to leave didn't do on time. The bulk of the resident there are contract workers at the big industries up the street. For many it was obvious they had been there a long time and weren't to concerned with how much junk they accumulated, or left out in the rain to rust and rot. The few I talked too weren't camper friendly and camping there was job part of the pathway to a paycheck.. In watching the manager, it became apparent that he was over his head in work and just didn't have time to do it all. Eventually the manager knocked on my door to apologize about the pool. He explained he didn't know what was wrong with it but had decided to go to salt water instead of chlorine. The work would take 7 to 10 days he explained. I discovered that the work was to be done by the same pool man who didn't have time to do the work in the first place. Since the manager had offered me a refund I took it and left the next morning.
