The Takeaway: an urban rv park location, location, with convenient rail access to the Gateway Arch and downtown St.Louis, MO. Easy access from I55 to the rv park long pull thru paved sites, albeit not level, wide streets and turning radii. The on line reservation system is a breeze and permits the reservation of a specific site. Visited April 2018 and May 2019. Go to www.rickpicks.com for other reviews, critiques and essays with links to area attractions, and a more detailed review of this park, etc.

Pros: very close to downtown StL. Right across the parking lot from the casino, which is right across the river from downtown. Clean well maintained restrooms (no frufru!, very plain), laundry, store etc... all self service, including check-in. Not much to look at, not ugly, but no landscaping etc... kind of has the feel of a drive in theater without the screen. grounds are well maintained, but there aint much greenery (some trees on the lower number sites, but the splats underneath are enough to keep you happy you got a higher number. That said, it has a BEAUTIFUL view of the arch. Nice gazebos for picnics. Playground for the kiddies. Wifi worked great, but had to call the main phone number to get the code. Security is visible as they make regular circles through the park. Cons. Be careful as you navigate the last few minutes, as being in the correct lane is imperative. Turns were all manageable, and I'm still in my rookie season. Its noisy (but you are in a big metropolis, so kind of to be expected). Train sounds predominate. Didn't bother us, but some might be more easily disturbed. There's a cable hook up, but it doesn't have cable service... obviously once did. My sewer hookup was not threaded, so I spent several minutes making sure the hookups were balanced over the pipe. Note that it is all self service, Keep your email correspondence handy. It will be the only way to know where your site is, and you have to have the gate code for everything... rest rooms, etc. Will stay here again. The good outweighs the bad.

The noise factor makes the high price ($48) not worth it. Surrounded by freight trains, elevated public rail transportation and highways. Freight locomotives sound like jets taking off. Will wear ear plugs tonight. Also no place to request Good Sam discount when making reservation and no live person at check in to correct, thus no discount. No need for a code at the gate - wide open. Nothing in the "vending area", other than a phone for calling security to take you to the casino (which could be walked). So many vacant spots that if the one you picked when reserving on-line did not fit, you could easily move yourself to another. My 24' TT and car just fit a 38' site thanks to long hose and electric cord but the sewer is too far away. One bright spot is that the public rail transportation (above) takes you to the Gateway Arch NP ($2.50 one way). All other comments in previous posts describing site were accurate.

Be aware that there is no longer a person . to check you in. You have to make reservations ahead of time and then they will send you a confirmation number/e-mail that is suppose to contain your gate access code. We ended up having to call the front desk in order to get the code. After a long day of driving, very annoying to have to wait while the front desk people try to get you a code to get in. No connivence store as advertised. Facilities are okay, not a 9 or ten rating by any stretch of the imagination . Noisy trains tracks right next to campground. Not to mention the constance fly over by helicopters who are sightseeing at the Arch. Will say a great view of the arch from the campground. In the summer, I could see how the campground could be hot and miserable as it is totally paved over with some rocks between sights. Hookups are good with water, sewer and cable at each site.

We spent the night in the RV Park. We arrived right at 4pm on a Saturday evening and the office was already closed - surprised that they close that early - but the late check-in was easy. We were able to find a spot long enough for our 40ft MH and toad to park without unhooking. We had no trouble hooking up to electric and water. The noise didn't bother us at all and the spot we chose was fairly level. There is a nice picnic area with several shelters with picnic tables and grill - lots of grass available there since sites are all pavement with gravel between. There also is a playground. It is advertised as having a mini-mart but mini is the key word here - the refrigerator/freezer was practically empty. There is interstate and train noise but didn't bother us. Check-out the next morning seemed to take longer than one would expect - lots of stuff had to be entered in the computer, etc. We would definitely stay there again.

The office staff at the park were super - courteous & helpful. It was a short walk to the Metro to get to Busch Stadium or town. A free shuttle also services the park users to & from home games there. Casino is short walk also. Our site was very angled so check that out. There was no charge when we had to check out late.

Very nice park a short distance from the casino but with a shuttle so you can use the pool, restaurants, etc They have a small store with basics at the park and a nice on site attendant. Security comes through on frequent intervals. They but s in the side (left) with smaller sites and we really would have preferred a bigger site so we could have left our jeep connected - but we may not have stated that when we called and checked in. So - make that clear if you call. The only other negative - and this may be a temporary thing - is that we couldn't find any dumpsters or garbage cans. There was a wooden fenced concrete slab and someone had left a bag of garbage there, so that appeared to be the process, but it wasn't clear. In their defense, I didn't ask. Nice views of the St Louis arch from the park which is a bonus. We would certainly stay here again.

It's a little difficult to find due to the traffic patterns in the area but it is not far off the highway. Security met us at the entrance to the RV area and were very helpful in explaining the after hours check in. This park has been renovated extensively - looks new. There are 2 sections to accommodate smaller RV's and longer class A. The area for the 30 ft or less has small trees. The park is clean and security is clearly visible on the grounds. This is not a "destination" park (state/national parks) or a vacation spot unless you want to visit the casino often. Its a great spot to stop for a night while traveling. The mini mart has limited hours and it is centrally located with the laundry facility and showers. Guests are given a keycard to access the showers. They are clean. There is a small children's park. The grounds are well maintained. You can call the security shuttle to take you anywhere on the premises. We will stop here on our travels again.

There is no way that this is a ten rated park in any way. Good Sam needs to verify their ratings. On our recent stay, June 2017, we would rate this park below par in every respect. It is located in a very bad part of East St Louis requiring continuous security roaming the park. The large sites for larger RV's had no trees and the sites were far from level requiring a lot of work to level the RV. The sites with trees are extremely small limiting them to 30 foot RV's max. The bathrooms are small and in need of upkeep and were not cleaned the two stays of our stay. No soap or paper towels are provided. There is no one on site before 9:00 am and after 4:00 pm, for security reasons which was stated by the employee that checked us in. However, the Gateway Arch is visible from the park. We will never stay at this park again. On a separate note, we have found that Good Sam ratings are very inaccurate. I recommend Good Sam begin verifying their ratings. This isn't the first park we have visited that was very overrated. It's a shame that we pay membership fees for very inaccurate information. The discounts are nice but not worth it the park is bad.

We stayed 3 nights to see some attractions in the area due to the park’s proximity to downtown St Louis. The park is an interesting drive from I-70/55/64 (Exit 2B: 3RD ST) through a commercial district along a paved roads that had seen better days. The casino grounds were undergoing some construction so it was a rough ride. Plus there were significant dips near the office which could cause damage from impacting the pavement. There were a lot of scrape marks in the pavement on both the entrance and exit sides. There was a main train track along one side of the park. Freight trains were very active along the route causing noticeable noise in the early morning hours. All of the sites are pull throughs. The interior roads and sites are paved. There were two different areas of the park. One that was older with smaller sites and a tree canopy. The other was newer, more open, with larger parking pads and no trees. We stayed in the newer section so the information about the sites is about the newer section. The park was built on a slope. There appeared to be no effort to tier any of the sites so only a handful are anywhere near level. The remainder have a bi-directional pitch that in some cases is extreme causing some motor homes to have their axles suspended in the air. The P/T sites were long enough but the location of the utility connections at the rear of the site caused us to park the towed vehicle in the front in order to reach the connections. They have full hook ups – water, electricity (50/30 AMP), & sewer. The sewer connection was at the ground so it was easy to establish a downhill flow. Sites had sufficient room for opening slides. Distance and gravel areas establish privacy between the sites. No outside table or fire pits. In the newer section, there were no obstructions to the sky so satellite reception was good. Cable channel lineup showed 15 channels. The park provided WiFi was poor. It was password protected. Our Verizon WiFi hotspot worked well. Didn’t try the NET10 phone so don’t know about cell phone reception. There was no designated fenced pet area but there was a narrow grassy border along the edge of the park and along the park’s roads to exercise a dog. There were no bag dispensers or collection stations for waste anywhere in the park but there were some dumpsters scattered around the park. For being in a hazardous/severe weather area, didn’t see an underground storm shelter or any structure identified as a severe weather shelter. We would probably stay here again if visiting the area but only if one of the level sites was available. TIP: For being a casino park, this one was disappointing. In the newer section, the sites at the ends of each row (501 – 506, 521, 522, 601, 602, 604, 618 & 619) are generally the levelist. It’s an easy ride on the mass transit train into downtown St Louis. The station is near the casino. The hardest part is getting from the park to the station (casino security provides rides) and from the street level to the track level. There was an elevator but when it is being serviced, the climb is about 3 stories.

Very convenient and close to St Louis downtown and other attractions in the area. The park is not what many would expect a RV park to be, but as said it is very convenient to everything in the city. The Casino dining was OK, but only ond restaurant open in the evening somewhat disappointing. Laundry very expensive make sure you have a lot of coins. We will however stay here again should we journey that way.

Campground for larger class As is a glorified parking lot. Hookups set to far back in the parking space so you have to unhook your tow vehicle or have an extension cord, additional water hose and additional sewer hose. Sites, although paved, are not level. Had to use a block to level up properly. The good sites with lawn are not long enough for anything greater than about 32 feet. The cost $49 with GS discount is way out of range for what is offered. Only real positive is the train into St Louis for site seeing.

I don't know why this RV park is rated so highly on Good Sams. The ONLY thing good about it is the proximity to St. Louis and a nice view of the Arch. It is literally a blacktop parking lot with gravel between the "sites." Although the website shows grass and trees, there are NO trees on the south side (where big rigs are parked) and the grass has been replaced by gravel. The only grass is around the perimeter. There are a few picnic tables on a small common area. I would never have booked here had I known what it really looked like. Also, the price was over $50/night! For blacktop! with no trees or grass! Never again.

When visiting downtown St. Louis, this is the place to stay. The park is divided into 2 sections: north and south, with a convenience store/office in between. The south pull-through sites for the larger RVs are close together, separated by gravel areas. The parking surfaces (level and wide) and roads are asphalt, but with no grass or trees. The north sites for smaller RV’s do have some grass and small trees. The photos on the website are probably older and do not represent the park today. There is a small playground for children and a few pavilions each with a BBQ grill located between the north and south sides. There are no picnic tables, fire-rings or grills at each site, so it is not what you might think of as a typical “campground”. This RV park absolutely cannot be beat for visiting St. Louis. The office staff is very helpful and accommodating. The RV park store is a typical convenience store. The laundry is expensive ($3.00 for a wash and dry), and the showers appear small, but clean. The doors are secured by a card-operated lock. You are issued a card upon check-in. We did not use these facilities, but they appeared to be adequate. I understand that RV park guests are allowed to use the pool and exercise room at the Casino Queen Hotel nearby, but we did not use these either. We stayed here to see a few Cardinals games and do site-seeing in the city. There could not possibly be a better location. Security would pick us up and take us to the nearby MetroLink train at the edge of the casino property. When we returned, a call would bring them within minutes and they would take us back to the doorstep of our RV (this is a free service). Security also patrolled the park throughout the night. A $27 MetroLink pass let us use the metro as often as we wanted for a week. There are trains nearby, running day and night, and they are noisy, but we were so tired from all the fun we had, we had no trouble sleeping. The utilities on the south RV sites were at the very rear of the site. I did find this a bit unusual, but no problem for electric, water and cable. However, it did require about 25 feet of sewer hose for our motorcoach. All utilities worked well. The park was surrounded by a 20’ + grass strip and fence, which worked well as a dog walk. There was a shopping center about 15 minutes away in Collinsville, IL, a short, safe drive. While East St. Louis is known to be very dangerous, we NEVER felt threatened at all. For the utilities, amenities available, and location, I believe this is a fair value. We received a Good Sam discount and an even larger discount for staying for 7 days. We will certainly stay at the Casino Queen RV park on our next visit to St. Louis.

The photos on the website don't quite do the park justice. Instead of the carefully manicured grass between sites, the park features gravel, accentuating the aspect of just being a big parking lot. The arch is visible from the park, but is partially obscured by a large hill. Most frustrating was the late check in; we were told to go ahead and pick an empty space (convenient), but upon check in the next morning, were told we'd need to move our RV (inconvenient). The location also backs up to train tracks which are used regularly; including at night. The park was clean and staff were pleasant. We appreciated the convenience to locations we wanted to visit in St. Louis, but we would opt for a different park next time we stay in the St. Louis area, even if it were a little less convenient.
