cleanliness and physical characteristics of restrooms, including interior construction, adequate supplies/odor free, adequate number of facilities, exterior appearance and location in relation to park spaces, and interior appearance.
the park's setting and site layout, function and identification of signage, overall exterior building maintenance, noise, trash disposal, litter and debris around the grounds and sites, and appearance of grounds, sites and entrance area.
The facility was not at all like the pictures found on line. The lake was weedy, the beach looked unused and many RVs and campers on the property were unkept. There was garbage piled up at the playground trash can. We requested a full hook up site and were later told we could only have electric and water if we arrived after 7pm. We learned this when we called to be polite as we determined we would arrive after 7pm. Then it was too late to find another place to stay for the night. They did not accept credit cards, only cash or check.
This is a rural campground outside of Chicago. Had a 36 ft. Class A motor home while there. Staff was friendly and very responsive to our requests. Laundry facilities were clean and inexpensive. There is a large lake for fishing. Maintenance staff was out working every day to keep the campground clean. Lots of families with children were present every day.
This park is in rural Chicago - and it is exactly what you would expect for a country campground. Staff at park was friendly and responsive to our requests.
Two small ponds and one large lake for fishing.
Campground workers were out every day maintaining the grounds.
Laundry facility was clean but didn't use the restrooms.
I hate having to make critical reviews. Have no idea why the rating is listed as 8/10/8.5. 5/8/5 would be more accurate. The place (at least for the one-night-stay folks) is a veritable mud puddle with huge water-filled pot holes on the roads. We had to drive thru them because the site guide got confused and took us on a long trek to our site thru all the holes. Had to carry my little dog to a clean space to walk him because the grounds is covered in goose feces! Place appears to have a good many permanents so some are very old and trashy looking. Website photos show only the nicest aspects near the lake and trees. Bathroom was very clean. Laundry okay, small.
Horrible experience. First, only RV park I've ever seen that won't take Visa - cash or check only. But the real problem was when we tried to hook up. We were assigned a full service pull-thru site. After parking the RV, setting the levelers, hooking up elec, water, and sewer, and opening the slider, I open the black tank valve and find out their sewer line is plugged. Called them - no answer. Walked 200 yds to office to explain - they sent a maintenance guy 30 minutes later. He couldn't fix it - told me I had to walk back to the office to request a different site. Walked back to the office - they said they'd send someone out to the site to tell me where to move to. 20 minutes later, someone arrives assigns us another site, and leaves. I unhook, bring in the slider, raise the levelers, move to the new site, and reverse the process. During the entire 90 minute ordeal, not a word of apology. Their attitude was unbelievable. Stuff happens, but it's the way it's handled that defines the service level. At this place, the service level is 1. I'd never stay here again.
We spent two nights there, The name is misleading and this is Not a Resort by any definition. All the sites around the lake are seasonal sites in a gated area. If your stopping there short term you will be in a field, think cow pasture! They advertise Free WiFi but it won't stay connected for more than 30 seconds. Their cable was broken and said they were working on it but never saw a cable truck around. There is no pool only a small lake with a beach but the water is putrid and stagnate. I would never stick my toe in it and never saw anybody swim. None of this adds up to paying $45 a night. Last night we spent a night at a really beautiful Resort in Wisconsin for the same price.Unless you are a one night stopover Don't waste you time or money. We've been RVing for 20 yrs and this would rate among the worst!
The amenities list is a bit of a stretch. They claim planned summer activities. We arrived June 16th and the planned activities listed were from Memorial Day Weekend, and no planned activities occurred in the week we were there. They say they have a security gate, which they do, but it’s only around the lake area. A good portion of sites, including ours, is not gated. Lastly, all paved roads is true, but they haven’t been repaved in a long time and there are many potholes. There were doing a small patch job on the potholes, but the whole place needs to be repaved. Be prepared for flooded sites if it rains. Long story short, even though our site was nice and I met a few nice people here, I wouldn't recommend this place.
We have been here from March and will continue. Our grandkids love to come out and play at the play area, stay the night, and look forward to our campfires. They are very responsive to our needs, my teenage grandaughter was impressed with the bathrooms, we use tbeir laundry facilities with no problems, campers that we have met love the place. We love the full hook up, spacious lots, grassy area, and the sunsets are awesome! The staff is very kind, waves, smiles, and does their best to help when needed. We look forward to our continued stay, and totally recommend for others to stay.
Full time staff are very rude. No security on grounds. 80% of campground spots flood with rain. Laundry and bathroom were closed due to 1 inch of rain. Smell of sewage everywhere when rained. Lake is not easily accessed from most sites unless you have a golf cart. Lake is over grown and looks very unhealthy with pond scum. No game room, it has been closed permanently. Paddle boats are not useable due to condition of lake. Needless to say we will never stay here again. It is sad that GoodSams has this campground listed on their site
Park in desperate need of repairs. Staff very rude and confrontational. Children's play area in very poor state and the swing collapsed on some children while I was there. Park has major drainage issues, the park flooded twice in one month and site was under water for over a week one of the times. Most sites here are set up backwards so you have to pull in and back out. Can't speak for the way they treat the overnight campers but the long term campers are treated very rudely. Electric is very expensive here also. Will not return to this place!
We stayed the entire month and the only positives were other campers we met, the new washroom and shower facility and the laundry room. The property is desperately unkept with road conditions the worst we have seen. Playground is rotted wood structure that should be condemned. Rec Hall for activities is so musty and moldy smelling with furniture from the 70's and non working washrooms.......it is disgusting. The attitude of employees reflects their dislike of owner, crabby and complaining. How Good Sam has such high ratings is a mystery to me and we will not be trusting those ratings again.
The only good thing about this place is the bathroom You can't swim in the "lake" it's so polluted Ponds for fishing are covered in scum Teen center is closed & the owner refuses to reopen it Canels are a joke You can't use paddle boat because the lake is overgrown with weeds Hiking trails are impassable Any decent sites are reserved for monthly use only Seasonal area is run down with abandoned trailers Pictures on their website must be from a decade ago Once you check in they will not give a refund so when you pay upfront in cash only you're stuck unless you want to lose your money Good Sams Club needs to pay this dump a visit if they are going to allow the park to fly the Good Sam flag
The staff was too busy to help you, there was a $300 charge added to your monthly fee ( not advertised ) but was returned when you left, there is also a $65 monthly charge if you have a trailer. lot size is big and well kept, electric needs updating we lost power 3 times and had 2 power surges. Roads need repair. over all not bad but expensive electric alone was over $150 for the month.
It is a nice sight for getting away from the electronic world. However the Good Sam add is miss leading. My stay was 2 months. Here are issues:
1. They don't accept credit cards as advertised; cash or check.
2. They require a $300 CASH deposit and is not used to apply against your final bill but returned to you in form of check from park.
3. There is NO reliable wi-fi or cable. In 60 days only worked 3 days.
Staff was rude and confrontational. Bathrooms dirty and far away. Lake was a disgusting cesspool. Paddled boats non functional and broken down. Road to rough for kids to ride bikes. The only good was the lighting bugs!
