We spent 6 weeks here in a 5th wheel in Jan/Feb 2017. LW is not fancy but it is a good fit for us. Pet friendly, and the people are friendly and welcoming, but this is an over 55 park. The hospital uses one of the park's open areas for their LifeStar helicopter landing areas to service the nearby campgrounds should the need arise. Plenty of activities to keep you occupied. The seasonal and permanent residents are very friendly and we feel at home here. We stayed here last year for 2 weeks and decided to return for a longer stay this year. Our roomy, back-in site 185 was 30 AMP but at our request maintenance immediately added a 50 AMP hook-up. The park is very well maintained and improved over last year. All the washers and dryers were working, the swimming pool was pristine, and more landscaping added as well as drink and snack machines. They have a nice dog park with water available, plus there are 2 very large grassy field areas for dog-walking. Bring your bicycles as there are low traffic county roads all around this area as well as the Peace River for canoeing and kayaking. I loved watching the sandhill cranes and ibis wander through the park and the adjoining field.
Arcadia is a nice small town that is famous for its antique shops in the downtown. Grocery stores, WalMart, and restaurants are conveniently located. Other attractions within a short drive include Myakka State Park, airboat rides on the Peace River, kayak and canoe rental, and the Austrian Lipizzan Stallion ranch and training center. And the Gulf Coast towns of Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte are an hour away.
The negatives would be the traffic noise from highway 17 and Cubitis Rd, no internet access on your site; you have to take your laptop to the community building to get online. Also, you have to park your rig on grass which can be soft in the sites 12 thru 28 backing up to Cubitis Rd. if it has rained much. No picnic tables but we bring our own table. You can hear noise from the blueberry fields that sounds like cannon fire to scare the birds, but we didn't find that to be too disturbing at our site.
The country atmosphere with the smell of orange blossoms, wildlife, a laid-back, friendly attitude and reasonable rates will have us returning next year.
Checked in first thing, all went fairly well. I requested a 50 amp site and was given a 30 amp site and was told they would check to see if they could change it over to a 50, still waiting! Told them the electrical box door/ lid was off, told by management that maintenance would take care of it ASAP! Still waiting 5 days and 2 rain storms! Wife went to their laundry facilities and only half the machines were working, was told by site manager that the repair company has been called! Another camper that was there said " I have been here 6 months and it was broke the first day!" Sites flood when it sprinkles , manager is a nasty horrible person, as well as most of his staff! Really don't know how he even passes Good Sam inspections! All I can say if this is the only place availability... BOONDOCK!!
