Appeal Rating We actually stayed 5 months here as Winter Texans and we could not have been more pleased. The staff is very welcoming and they do a terrific job carrying for the grounds. They have a saying here, If your bored its by your own choice. Literally there are activities every day. From pickle ball to indoor pool/jacuzzi (and heated outdoor pool). I can not begin to list the clubs and activities. I suggest you visit bentsengroveresort.com and just look around.
In addition to all of the activities, its literally down the road (2 miles) to Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park which is one of the best birding centers. South Padre Island is only about 1 1/2 hour drive with so many historical places in between. The nearby communities sincerely appreciate our staying there with actual parades, shopping programs, shows and a lot more.
If you want to get away this is the place to go.

Appeal Rating One might think that I am bias in this review but I must tell you, this place is great. Its not the newest place and it shows with the mature trees lining almost every street. The two pools (indoor with jacuzzi and outside heated) are cleaned every morning. To find a activity here, look at the schedule! There is something everyday of the week. From home style cooking (including homemade donuts) to karaoke and dance. Various table games, pickle ball, horse shoes, nearby golf, billiards, volleyball and it goes on. The property is well maintained by a very friendly staff. You can't even keep your hands in your pockets because someone is going to wave to you. The office staff is there to offer a friendly hand but I also must tell you that the manager is more than willing to do for you what she can. Your only minutes away from Mexico and a short drive to South Padre Islands. There is something here for everyone, I highly recommend you trying this place for a day, week, month(s) or permanent resident.

Appeal Rating Bentsen Grove; what can I say? I am leaving in the morning but with regret. Wish we could stay another month! We stayed for a month and had a great time. The facilities are not new, nor are they fancy, but the staff is great and there is so much to do. On arrival, we were escorted around the park to select our site from a list of those available. Bring cash or checks. Mgmt does not take a credit card. We chose the one that seemed quietest to us, though all seemed clean and level. The guide hung around to make sure all went well with the hookups. Tips on hookup: Site provides only 50a. If you are running 30a, you will need a converter. Mgmt will lend you one, with a cash deposit. If you plan to use the wifi, bring a modem/router with you. The overair wifi is useless, but once wired into their newer wired system it is great. Lots, and lots, of scheduled activities. Really, something for everyone from Stained Glass lessons, rock collecting, Spanish lessons, indoor table tennis (with lots of opponents), indoor pickleball (great game), and bike club with both easy and more challenging rides several times a week. Place is called Bentsen Grove, I assume, in honor of the area and all the orange trees. If determined you can eat your rent's worth of free oranges: at least in January. This is our first attempt at Snowbirding but we found a gem on the first try. Plan is to return next season and stay longer. We are from Snow Lake Shores, MS and stayed in a 23' Olliver Travel Trailer.
