We truly enjoyed our stay at Walnut Hills! The pool was amazing and clean, the playground is a pirate ship with plenty of green space to run, we walked around the "lake" (more like a clean retaining pond) while people fished, and the area was clear of trash and debris. We loved it so much, we're returning to meet up with family this summer. **The one problem we had with the campground is the sewer hook-up we had was uphill (site #302). Unless you are absolutely sure the septic is going to flow properly, just go to the dump station before heading out.

No! Expensive with discount for what you get. Again Good sam’s really over rated this one. Cut the rating in half and it’s about right. Overnight stops you’ll be using the dump station in the middle of the park. Roads and sites are tight. Need gravel in sites. They have way to much standing water in and around the sites. No OTA or Sat, Wifi ok.

Walnut Hills Campground is a real gem of a facility. You seem to be lost in the woods with the peaceful and serene atmosphere. Our stay was only for one night but this place is spacious and we particularly loved the hillside spots. I would recommend this campsite to be added to your travels.

Even when the leaves are down, and it's windy and cold this is a beautiful spot. Our stay was excellent from reception on. We had a perfect pull through spot high up on a hill overlooking the park which includes a small lake, a maze, disc golf, and superb restroom facilities (per my husband). Sites are spaced well apart to give one a sense of privacy. They're gravel. The roadways are navigable, even for our big rig with car trailer. Some of the sites have swing sets. We took our MH out one day. Returning later in the day to our site we were met and asked where we were going, as they hadn't recognized our MH. This gave us a sense of how good their security is! Everything is clean and well tended. Husband was VERY impressed with the cleaning service in the public facilities. We'd love to come back when it's warm and we can do more than walk around!

After so many cancellations this year, we finally got to stay at beautiful Walnut Hills!! We have family close by and were able to celebrate two birthdays and catch up with family and friends. Couldn't do a real Halloween thing as they normally do, but they created a fun "maze" that was socially distanced. It was absolutely beautiful and had fun "fishing" in Lake Kerplonken. Didn't catch anything but the kids and some adults had fun trying. Can't wait to come back next Spring and Summer and hope the pool is open!

Nice park, a bit older showing its age in places. Gravel roads need some work, sites are gravel. Includes some seasonal/permanent residents intermixed.

Overnight stay for us. Very nice campground and nice staff. Could not really rate facilities because we did not use them. Quiet. We had what they call a last resort site which was very easy in and out and didn't have to unhook the Jeep. The hookups are on the opposite side so make sure you have enough length for the last resort sites. They also have a nice big dog park.

We came up from Lexington, NC. So, did the whole check in online. Check in was easy, flawless. Office staff was amazing, courteous, and very helpful. This was our first camping trip together with our new camper Grey Wolf 26DBH. Very easy to navigate to here and plenty of room to make your turns and turn around. Very pet friendly here, very friendly campers here. Met some amazing people. They do have a pool, but being this is November, the pool was obviously closed. There is a lot of wildlife here... There is a lot of wildlife here (deer, beaver, owls, to name a few that we saw) and the pond does have some ducks, and fishing as well. Also, really close to Edelweiss German Restaurant, which is really amazing. We will definitely be coming back up here.

We just stopped over for 1 night but we really enjoyed the campground. We had a very large pull thru site with propane grill, swing, picnic table and fire pit. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We will definitely stay here again.

Assigned a site at check in, marked on map. During set up 3 cop cars came in fast to the park, didn't make you feel safe. Finished setting up, then someone from ofc came out & said we're in the wrong site, we had to move to the next door one, that someone had reserved the 1 they put us in. I showed them the map & that we were assigned to that space. Mind you, we're 44' 4 slides & staying 2 nights. So we moved. Turns out the people who came into the site stayed hooked up & left after 1 night. (I think the ofc actually assigns, it would have been much easier after a hard day of driving to not have to go through all the work of moving). I asked for an adj/discount because of all this & they refused. Price is high, 44 for water/elec. I had rec 2 receipts emailed to me with GS disc. After we left we got another one for an additional 9+. They subtracted the disc. I called & asked why they said my # wasn't valid. I gave them the correct one. (I wasn't asked for a # at check in). Inside driving is hard for big rigs & you can do damage from trees. Plus signage is not great once you're in the turn around area.

This is a beautiful campground, interesting layout, very well-kept, nice plantings and lots of trees. The campground was well-located for access to Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Natural Bridge. It was easily reached from I-81, yet just far enough away for quiet. Campground personnel were friendly and positive. Our pull-through site was big enough for our RV and towed car, with room to spare. We don't have dogs, but there was a nice, big fenced dog park for them. All in all, a good... Read More

The man who drove the kid's train ride around the campground was super nice and interacted well with the kids. Pump out service, when available, is well managed and appointments are kept. Now the bad stuff. One of our cabins had bed bugs. Unfortunately, this discovery occurred during a time when most staff were engaged in repairing a water system issue. Nevertheless, an employee responded quickly and was quite sympathetic and apologetic when she arrived. However, there was no attempt to assist the family in finding a room at any other accommodation (motel) and the campground was sold out. 10:30 PM and no place to spend the night with two elementary age kids. Luckily I was able to go on line and find a room but with no help from the campground. The next day, we went to the office to talk about any cost reimbursement that might be possible. The manager had been primed to give us a take-it-or-leave-it offer and was clearly expecting trouble. We were met with a scowl and curt responses, even a denial that the bed bugs were there in spite of still and video pictures. Their offer was fair on the one hand and the least they could do on the other (reimbursement for the two nights the cabin was unoccupied and immediate return of the cleaning deposit). Later that day, the manager and owner witnessed the family washing/drying the bed linens and said nothing or offered to help in any way. We visited with other campers who had had bad experiences with the management over minor issues. I am force to give them a low rating despite the attractiveness and condition of the facility because you can expect no assistance and a lot of hostility if anything goes wrong.

There is a section of the park that is on the flat and intended as an overflow area or late arrival area as campers arriving after dark could have difficulty traversing the campground roads. The ducks and occasional heron make one realize he/she is truly out in the country. After checking in, we saw very little of the staff as we had no reason to seek them out. The restrooms were immaculate and obviously cleaned frequently. when we checked in, we noticed that the campstore appeared well-stocked. We would and will visit again.

We stayed for 2days, 3 nights while visiting family in the area. Large, level pull through, full hookup site. Had to disconnect water at night as the weather was below freezing, had 2" of snow the morning we left. Staff was helpful, and kept checking that everything was ok. Restrooms clean and well stocked, Park was neat an clean, pool was not open due to the time of year. Booked our next visit for during the summer, looking forward to it.

I tent camped here about 15 years ago. Took the RV here as part of a multi-day trip in VA. About 150 sites, nice fishing lake (I got some nibbles but did not catch anything), very friendly staff, all the typical KOA amenities. The only 2 short comings, in my opinion, were that the lower cable channels were fuzzy (I had this same issue at another KOA elsewhere in VA) and the sites around the lake were a bit tight. We had a great time at this campground, located near Thomas Jefferson's Montpelier estate. The campground's highlight feature is its large lake, with several back-in sites along one side. Fishing is permitted, and there is a bunch of ducks who will visit your site if you provide food, which the camp store sells. One of the fundraising activities was "candy bingo," which was a lot of fun. Additionally, the staff was very friendly.

We stayed here for one night each on the way to Va. Beach and back the last of Sept and first days of Oct. The hosts/staff were very nice. The sites were clean and fairly level.. The campground itself was very well kept. The shower house was clean. They have very nice pond. If I had a negative, it would be that from our site(126/114), the shower house was a little far off. Since we only stayed for these two evenings, we didn't get a full fill of the campground, but our vote is it's very nice.

The camp grounds and facilities are very well maintained. We especially liked the campsite we were provided. It had it's own wooden deck and a great view of most of the site. Since we travel with our 4 legged family members, we made use of the dog park. The people utilizing the park took care not to leave poop and the area was well maintained. The staff was very attentive to our needs and we assume the rest of the campers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
