Camped here for a long weekend. This is a smaller SC State Park. Campground is sand/gravel roads which is fine, same with the sites. Bathrooms are older style SC Park style but they were clean and maintained. Most of the electric at the campsites is 30 amp only, but there are some 50 amps. 6 of the campsites have sewer hookups. Most of the electric at the campsites is 30 amp only, but there are some 50 amps. 6 of the campsites have sewer hookups. We stayed in site 11 which was huge and in my opinion it the best site in the campground. It was on a turn so it was easy to get a travel trailer straight on the road then back in. Site 9 is the closest site and it was still a ways off.
The primary function of this park is the Edisto River. On warm weekends the park is very busy with day users, which is great, love to see the parks busy and supported. There is a tubing company that drops people off here at the park. They shuttle people in. I would assume if you at staying at the park you could ride you tube and then catch the shuttle back. Most people ride the shuttle in and float down to their destination where they parked.
There is one official hiking trail, the River Bluff. It is 1.5 miles and the beginning make you feel as if you are in the mountains. It is a nice hike but in reality maybe only ª mile or less is along the river. You also also high up on the bluffs and with leaves on the trees you don't get good views of the river. There is a spot where people can get down and close to the river. There is another trail, not on the maps, that starts at the swimming area, pass the bathrooms and you will find it. This one runs along the river and you get much better views, though it is short. You will come across a board walk/stairs, this leads up to the cabins.
As noted above there is a swimming area. Seems nice and the water felt refreshing, though we did not swim. I would imagine that are busy weekends it would be very crowded between people hanging around on the beach and tubers starting off down the river.
There is not much to do in the area. There are no grocery stores nearby. There is a convenience store near the entrance, though it is of questionable appearance. Bee City is a neat place for kids. Small interactive Zoo. We didn't have kids but enjoyed it. They do produce honey and was hoping to see the bees, none to be found. Guess too much risk to people or bees. Though they will happily sell you some honey, yeah, we bought some!
Cypress Gardens is about a 45 minute drive, well worth the trip.
This is the closest State Park to Charleston so that would be another day trip, or several day trips. Though if Charleston is you goal I would recommend James Island County Park for camping and experiencing Charleston.
