this is not a 9.5/10 "resort" ....yet. The main reason for 2 stars is the sites. The railroad ties need to go. This is not what we think of when we see the words "deluxe" or "premium". We stayed up on the hill but weren't told these were mainly occupied by full timers that need to crank up their diesel trucks and go to work at 5 a.m. I suggest the owners visit a VA state park as those sites are a 10. The pool and hot tub - awesome! The entrance and landscaping are very appealing. However, the camp store is not really stocked with items you may need camping so be sure to bring what you need. It's my understanding that the new owners just reopened so hopefully they will take any constructive criticism to heart and go camping. see what others do that are successful. again, mainly how the sites are laid out is what is driving us to the low star count. oh - stay on the road and do not cross the rip-rap when turning into your site. I saw a fifth wheel get stuck up to the axles.

We have stayed at this campground in the past but it seems to be suffering from severe neglect since our last visit. The interior roads are missing huge chunks of paving leaving big holes to "try" to maneuver around. There are more weeds than grass and even those have not been mowed. It seems that "permanent/long term campers" are now the majority. We arrived a bit early and were charged a $2.00 per hour early arrival fee even though the site was empty. I realize that this is the only game in town but $51.00 + per day feels extremely high for this campground. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and the entrance appears to be well groomed. Unless its a dire emergency, we won't be staying at this campground again.

We have been camping at this campground since 2009, one or two times once or twice every other year. We have noticed lately that the campground has lost its lustre. It's still very close to Shenandoah National Park which makes it very appealing. It is near Charlottesville for shopping. We camped there in a fifth wheel and had a full hookup, pull through site with cable. Due to the park's location, channel choices were limited. The restrooms were clean but dated. The roads in the park, once you get past the pull through sites are in need of repair. The pavement is broken or missing and there are naturally-occurring speed bumps. There are many long-term campers. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. The camp store is well-stocked. We didn't use the pool or laundry. We would return if we are in the area again - there aren't many other choices.

This campground is old, outdated and run down. Their sites are "rustic " and by rustic I mean muddy, and not level. OK, we've stayed in worse. Bath house and laundry were OK. My main complaint is how friends who came for dinner were treated. They checked in at the office, and even though my friend had a BROKEN FOOT, they were not allowed to park in the VACANT lot beside us, or there was plenty of room in front of our RV. The park was not even 1/3 full, so I really don't understand why this "rule" couldn't be waived for someone with a disability...NOT COOL! They made her husband drop her off...then he had to walk to our site. Then we had to drive them back to the office area...that was just a whole lot of trouble and getting in and out of vehicles unnecessarily foe someone on crutches. THEN, to add insult to injury...when I checked out this morning, I was asked how I wanted to PAY for my VISITORS (who were there all of 2 hours)...REALLY????? First you make a disabled person hobble in and out of vehicles unnecessarily...then you CHARGE me foe insulting my friend??? Needless to say, I certainly will never darken the doors of rhis dump, and I suggest you stay away as well. Final Thought: $50 a night for this dump was RIDICULOUSLY high.

Spent a three day weekend here. Newest member of the staff was very friendly but I can diffidently see how the other staff could be taken as a little harsh. Very direct and to the point. Overall I give them a three star and that's being friendly. Our lot was suppose to include gravel but was basically a mud pit. Had it not rained during our time there it would have been a dirt box. The roads were detreating and in need of repair. The pool was nice and clean but it too was falling apart. Mostly cosmetic but you can tell its been around for a good while. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through who needs a good place to stay for the night. Its quiet and dark. A little too dark for my liking. But for a family looking for a short weekend get away. I would pass here. How it got a 9 star from good sam I will never understand.

This was our first of many future visits to this campground. We stayed in spot 30 of this hidden gem during the month of hot/steamy mid-July weather. The site is cozy with tree covered shade. We stayed at the end of "Pull-Through" road which allows for minimal traffic flow for the pull through spots and increased privacy. (All sites on this road are backed up to the woods without any additional campers.) Upon connecting the utilities, a large weather front (wind/rain) came through and within 10 mins my site's power dropped off, I gave it 15mins and called the front office to see if it was the whole campground or just me. They said it was just my site and sent out someone immediately. They had us up and running in 10 minutes! (Many Thanks Guys! and I later discovered it was one of the owners!) When the weather cleared through, they reopened the pool. What a nice treat. We met up with some fellow campers looking for some humidity relief and completely enjoyed the pool. (I'm a little bummed that the pool closes at 7pm, but suspect it may be for liability issues). Still nice to enjoy while it was open. I had the opportunity to meet the owners. They are "down to earth" people that are looking to provide the best for their occupants. Bottom line, if you are looking to be a rebellious bunch that want to Rock & Party into the wee hours of the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an enjoyable, relaxing environment to bring your smaller grandchildren to, or better yet, just bring your better half for a stress free time, this Is the place! Oh and I have to mention... CLEANEST Bathroom I've seen in a long time! Dated, but CLEAN! Air Conditioning, and to put things into a detailed perspective, BLUE water in the commodes if that tells you anything. We will go out of our way to come back to this place!!!

While the location is nice, the owners and staff leave a lot to be desired. We have traveled to over 15 different campgrounds and this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. From the time we arrived the owners/staff were unfriendly and overly strict with rules in my opinion. They had a problem with my children riding scooters without helmets, they charged my elderly parents $10 to park and forced them to walk to our RV site(even after we called and explained that they were only picking up my daughter and were not staying). When I engaged then about the charge and incident they argued with me. I reviewed the published rules and there was nothing mentioned about helmets and scooters(just for bikes). I agree that rules need to be followed, but not in such an extreme way. We love to camp with our kids, and we look forward to fun experiences. The owners/staff made our stay stressful. We will most definitely not return to this campground.

The first night we were there the power fluctuated so badly it cut power to half of our camper. The surge protector we had on kept flashing a warning light. I found out from our next door neighbor that he had moved to his current location from ours because of the power issue. I went to the office the next morning and told the owner that we had issues and I knew about the previous camper, she got completely irate and said " we fixed it". I informed her they had not. Her husband came down to our site and we told him we were very upset and wished to move sites, he said no problem, but neglected to tell us the site we were going to move to was right in front of their halloween "kreepy maze " thing. Noise and screaming till after 10pm. Not acceptable at all. We will never go back.

They have a well stock store and propane. Can't wait until June to spend another couple weeks. It's always a great time in October with their Halloween Haunt.
