This campground is not terrible, but a BIG hassle all the way around. Getting to the campground is pretty rough. Your GPS, regardless of route will attempt to take you on a road marked NO RV TRAFFIC. It is an incredibly narrow road with lots of switchback type turns, regardless of the route you take and is 8 miles off the main road. The last mile or so is very steep and curvy, making entering AND leaving a challenge for any tow vehicle. There is one switchback where the road is scarred up from... Read More

The last mile or so is very steep and curvy, making entering AND leaving a challenge for any tow vehicle. There is one switchback where the road is scarred up from RV's and other vehicles dragging the road to navigate the turn. So be careful. Once at the office, you are forced to pull into an area for check-in, that requires you to back directly back in order to proceed through the security lift gate. Once there, you'll find yourself saying, "OK, I know" from staff AND long term residents asking, "You know you're not supposed to.....?" They are ADIMANT about rules and will even throw rules in that don't publically exist. So be prepared to be nit-picked to death. The bath house is OK, but not nearly as clean as the GoodSam rating indicates. I've camped there twice. Even if they lowered their rates to $10 a day, I would probably not stay due to all the combined hassles. There are other options within a 15-20 mile radius.

Cummins Ferry Resort is centrally located for trips to Shaker Village, Bourbon Trail, horse country, Frankfort and Lexington. The campground is located next to the Kentucky River which added to the ambiance. Distance between camping neighbors was ample. Park was clean and well-maintained with friendly, on-site manager/owner. Restrooms were very clean, could use an air conditioner or windows during hot months.

The road to the campground is a quite narrow road that leads to a very beautiful campground. This was supposed to be just a one night stop for us on our way to Tennessee. The landscape is breath taking along the Kentucky River, as we walked around the area My wife and her parents (yes, I took my in-laws with me, lol) was in love with the place. My father-in-law was amazed how clean and beautiful it was he asked if we could stay an extra night and cut one of our other stops out. Without hesitation... Read More

We also Went to Shaker Village and took the river boat ride. I would love to go back with some of our camping friends to this campground. The staff was friendly, the restrooms were great, our camping neighbors were friendly and the Kentucky River makes you not want to leave this place. The are many full time campers here and lots of weekenders. A great spot to enjoy life!
