We stayed here three days. Visiting Great Sand Dunes and Rio Grande Monument. The park rented us a sand board (which we knew nothing about) for "surfing the sand". Once we got to the Great Sand Dunes, lots of visitors had a rented board. We had a blast! but sand got in places we did not expect! Also, it is harder to walk up a sand dune with a board than it is to swim out to the waves on a board. The park sends out a lot of text messages for taking out the garbage, pizzas in the evening, and free coffee for breakfast. Management was very helpful and the camp sites were clean. We saw them clean-up sites after people left including cleaning out the ashes from fire rings. Bathrooms were clean, but nothing special. Can't say anything about the internet as we have a Starlink internet dish. The pool was heated and nice but it was too cold outside when we had the time to swim. We will go back there and this time we will order a pizza delivered to our RV!

We stayed a single night in order to tour Great Sand Dunes National Park. Given the short time we had we didn't partake of the offered amenities (pancake breakfast, swimming pool, etc.) We had looked forward to an expected view of the National Park's dunes in the distance but were disappointed that the visibility during our wasn't wasn't good enough to see more than about half a mile. The folks at the facility were very friendly and helpful. In general I thought the facility looked a bit tired... Read More

The folks at the facility were very friendly and helpful. In general I thought the facility looked a bit tired in what is admittedly a dry and dusty part of the country. Nevertheless I thought the place could have been spruced up more. Its main attraction from our standpoint was its proximity the the National Park and it met that objective well.

The KOA park is a nice layout with great owners, but the landscape is representative of the dry and arid San Luis valley of southern Colorado. The park is in a good location to visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park 30 minutes away while also being very close to town. The RV sites are pull through with a picnic table and fire ring. The roads and sites are gravel. The park has a pool, playground, horseshoes, volleyball area and a store with pizza restaurant attached. The wifi is non-existent... Read More

The wifi is non-existent even though they give out codes to access it. The water pressure is also very low. We took all of our showers with our water pump running. We would stay here again as the other options in the area look overpriced for what they offer. See our full reviews and pictures at thegilliamsisland.
