Maverick Ranch was a great base-camp for horseback riding in Big Bend Ranch State Park (highly recommend Lajitas Stables), and Big Bend National Park. Their pool, clubhouse, restrooms, and laundry were all top-notch. The complex includes hotel accommodations, restaurant(s) and a golf course - none of which we experienced, but it looks great. As mentioned, the landscape is desert, so don't expect shade. Not all sites have concrete pads, but even those that don't are level, clean and well maintained. If visiting this area in the future, we would definitely stay at Maverick Ranch again.

We stayed at this commercial RV park & golf resort in order to spend three days touring the Big Bend National Park. As was stated in earlier reviews this place is a fair drive from both Terlingua (17 miles and the nearest town) and the BB park entrance (20 miles, and 3 miles past Terlingua). Nevertheless the road is excellent with a 60 mph speed limit most of the way. In looking around Terlingua and points in between, including the campground in the National Park, we didn't see another RV park we would have preferred. Big Bend is a huge park with many 50-60 mile driving distances so an extra 20 miles before and after each day didn't seem like a burden. This facility had the best and nicest rec room/clubhouse, bathrooms, pool area and other amenities (i.e. golf, restaurant, bar etc) we had ever experienced at an RV resort. The RV sites were concrete and level, they are also frequently oriented front to front but with enough distance between them to make that acceptable. It's a desert landscape so picture sand and dirt with some "art" made out of drift wood and stone scattered here and there to break things up. Our site didn't have cable but with no trees to speak of our satellite system worked flawlessly. On our last night we had a meal at the Lajitas Resort restaurant which had a very pleasant patio dining area which was very comfortable in an evening of early April. The meals and drinks were not inexpensive but they were good and with everything probably trucked in from Alpine (90 - 100 miles) each week the cost wasn't surprising. In addition to the RV supplies store at the RV resort, Terlingua has a good general store on the southern outskirts of town on the road heading toward the entrance to Big Bend. These folks have packed an amazing amount of stuff into a fair sized building.

All FHU functioned well, and half the sites had cable hookups. Otherwise, no trees so Sat reception was fine. Large rec room and clubhouse with kitchen, swimming pool and many scheduled "Winter Texan" activities for the majority snowbirds who spend the season down here overlooking the Rio Grande River and Mexico. Incidentally, there is no border wall at all in this area of Texas, but we never saw or heard of any issues. The main resort includes a golf course, horseback rides, river adventures and shooting galleries. A well equipped general store is adjacent to the park entrance and has most basic essentials, as well as beer and wine and a deli. Otherwise, major provisioning for short termers needs to be done in Alpine ( 90 miles) or sooner. Lajitas is about 20 miles from the western Big Bend National Park entrance. Huge desert park with many hikes and lots of very beautiful scenery. Restaurant and saloon at the main resort (across street from RV park) and couple of small joints in Terlingua, about 15 miles.

We had heard about the Maverick Ranch RV Park and we wanted to stay there a week. It took us 4 calls to reach a person. We had been told by fellow camperers heading east who had stayed there that it was only partially full so when we called and asked for 1 week. We were told that we could only do 5 nights so we booked. We gave our info and asked for a confirmation email to be sent. We arrived.. it wasn't particularly full and checked in. We asked about extending our stay and she said let her know by Saturday. We asked again for the confirmation letter to be sent and yes, it would. We confirmed the particulars. We went to our assigned slot.. started setting up when another rv'er told us that we were in their spot ? We got out our paperwork and sure enough, we were in the right spot. Apparently we were both assigned there. On the 3rd day before we left, we rented a jeep to do some serious touring and shopping in the next town over. We picked it up and were 15 minutes into our drive when we received a call from the rental agent telling us that we could not have the jeep for 2 days. The reason was that we were checking out the next day (Saturday). We told them we were checking out on Sunday. Apparently, there was a report printed and we were checking out and we had to call the rv park office. So we did and left a voicemail asking to call us back. Nothing. Again @ 12:30. Nothing again. Again at 2:30 and finally reached a person. Yes, we were checking out tomorrow. So we went home and checked to see if we had rec'ed the confirmation letter. No. Checked to see what was put on our Visa. Nothing other than the deposit, so we had no recourse so we left. A couple things to note: . not all activities are available and are based on demand only such as dining under the stars . the "resort" uses the location to gouge.. for example, the diesel at their pumps is the highest we have seen . the park is a dirt patch with a rutted pavement surface for parking and driving on. Minimal landscaping. . there is a 25 dollar charge for you to wash your truck. This isn't due to a water shortage because they operate a 18 hole golf course beside the park . most of the amenities are out of the part and across the street.. about ® mile. No shuttle service is offered . the dog poo stops bags holder were empty when we arrived and never refilled and the poo garbage can wasn't empted . the food and "signature" drink at the bar did not fit the price charged.. we had a better and less expensive meal at Big Bend National Park at the Chisos Mountain Lodge with an absolutely spectacular view. . there is more but you get the idea. We now have been in the United States for roughly 2 and a half months, have been in 13 States and this park earns our second worse RV park rating.

This is the nicest RV Park we have stayed at. The bathrooms are wonderful. The scenery is breathtaking. The only downside was the heated pool was not heated. The resort offers several different extremely overpriced activities. The on-site restaurant was priced within reason and good. We did not have a vehicle and had planned to rent a Jeep. Turns out Jeep rental started at $250 per day, which seems a bit steep. So we did not get to drive through the park.

The drive to Lajitas was a little stressful with all of the mountains and winding roads as we have a gas Class A, but the road condition was excellent. Other than the lack of cell service, Wifi and conveniences (like a grocery store), we loved the location.

This campground looked very nice on the website so I was surprised. Found it a little neglected. Website states cable tv but when I got there I was told I did not ask for cable when I made my reservation and our site did not have cable. They did not have any other sites available. When I made the reservation, no one said anything about some sites not having cable. I find this unethical. Not many other nice RV parks around so maybe it meets standards but not for me.

A great experience! Between Big Bend National Park & Big Bend Historic State Park, two magnificent parks, w easy access to both. Rated the best "dark sky" area in the US, so nights are glorious. A 1/2 mile walk to the Rio Grande (no crossing), easy to explore other towns nearby (Terlingua) & over the border. Beautiful facility, amenities, drive-thru and tent sites; full use of Lajitas resort (spa, bar, food, if you're in the mood). Easy to explore other towns nearby & just over the border. Very dry, VERY HOT in summer, no full-service grocery nearby, so stock up; may not be lively for smaller kids, but a high school group was having a great time exploring the area. A winter there would be glorious.

Wonderful place! Great views. Well maintained facilities, esp the restrooms and showers. EXTREMELY friendly and helpful staff, even to the point of assisting with problems with our rental TT. The drive to Big Bend Nat'l Park is a little long, but isn't everything in this part of TX. It is well worth the extra miles. Resort amenities are great. This RV park is attached to a golf resort and you get access to facilities there (multiple restaurants, shops, etc).
