This was our third stay at Shabbona Lake. It's only 2 hours west of Chicago, and easy to access. We have found it to be generally peaceful and grand-kid friendly. If your fresh water tank is not full, top off before heading to your site, and dump black and grey all sites are electric only. With a few exceptions, most sites are sloped and extra leveling effort will be needed. Lots of shade here, but you can find a few sunny sites. Large rigs may have difficulty maneuvering due to some narrow roads and poorly angled (perpendicular to the road) sites. Toilets are pit-style, except for the central shower building.
Corrections-- Name: Shabbona Lake State Park. Address: 100 Preserve Road, Shabbona, IL 60550. Camp Store: Yes, Firewood for sale: Yes. Yes to Playground, Hiking trails, Fishing, Biking (on local rural low-traffic roads).
