We stayed in this campground for a week and had a great time. The new owners will bend over backwards to make your stay a memorable one. This is a great location as a base camp to see all the sights in the area - Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Custer State Park and Wind Cave Park. The laundry facilities were extremely clean and affordable which is a nice change. If you are planning on a trip in this area, please consider this campground and give these new owners a chance to show you a wonderful time!

While I originally planned to stay in Custer State Park, I messed up the reservation and it was no longer available. Fortunately we found a wonderful commercial campground, Custer Crazy Horse Campground. This place is under new ownership as of May 2017 and they are working hard to get it back into top shape. The owners have bent over backwards to make sure we are happy. I can't say enough about the customer service. Don't be put off by the sites you see up front. The heart of the place is just over the hill. Situated on 13 wooded acres, you feel like you are camping in a national forest, surrounded by Ponderosa pines. Mixed in with the RV camping are both tent only sites and a number of small cabins. This is a great hub for visiting the multiple sites in the area. It is near Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park, Wind Caves National Park, and many other sites. Give this place a shot. The new owners are working hard to overcome the reputation of the previous owners. Be sure to ask about their blue heelers who ride around the campground with them to make sure all is well.

What a wonderful place!!! This is a campground that is under new ownership for the past month. I have to admit that I was hesitant to stop by and check for availability based on the lack of people there. I am SOO happy that we stopped!! The new owners are amazing people. They exceeded my customer service expectations by leaps and bounds! If you know me, that is saying a lot about them right there!! Facilities: Showers: amazingly clean!! Laundry: very nice AND affordable!! That is a rarity to find now a days! Pool: nice outdoor accommodations and a clean pool! Camp Sites: At first you think they look small but once your parked and set up, no issues at all. Playground: I don't have any children at home anymore, but the play area for the kids is great! There is nothing fancy or electronic at the grounds, just good ole' fashioned fun!! Folks, give the new owners a chance to share with you how wonderful they are! You will have one of the best times ever staying here!! We will be returning in a couple of months.

Our stay here was not the best that it could have been. The campground hasn't been maintained. The spaces are small and difficult to back a trailer into if your are not an accomplished backer. We take our dogs with us where we go, this campground is very not dog friendly. When we got our trailer set up and ready to use, the next morning we stepped out and the smell of the next door neighbors sewer hit us in the face. Not what I like to be doing when I first wake up and step outside. These sewer dumps are right in the front door. YUK. We were also told we would need a device to prevent backwash of the water line. State regulations. We put a deposit down, rented the device, and when we were ready to leave, the office was closed and could not get the refund for the device. Other campgrounds we visited in South Dakota mentioned nothing about the device. Gotcha! Other than the close proximity to everything we wanted to see and do, I can't say much good about this location. Will stay somewhere different next time.

The location is very convenient to all the Black Hills sites. However, the campground itself is old and in need of an upgrade. The roadways are terrible - narrow, rutted, angled and with sharp turns. Further, they aren't well marked and without a map you could get lost. The owner's command of the English language makes communication somewhat difficult. Because it was quiet and convenient to the sites, we might stay there again; however all we did was sleep there between our day trips. We didn't use any of the recreational facilities, laundry, etc.

This is a very old park and has not been maintained in some time. The roads are in very poor condition and most of the spaces are too narrow for a vehicle with slides. The bathrooms and showers were not cleaned daily (and not well then!) during the week+ that we stayed there. There are two laundry rooms but if you have more than two small loads of laundry it will take considerable time or you must use both at once. The mature trees are very nice for shade but need to be trimmed (and some removed?) so trailers can use the facility. It would be nice for tent camping. It is a very convenient location for visiting the beauty of the Black Hills but there are several nicer places close also. We had issues with the lack of an office phone on making & altering reservations. We were told by camp employees that the listed phone is a cell that the owner carries (and she doesn't speak much English so when she did return my call we couldn't communicate well). We would not stay here again and Good Sam needs to update its review.
