Salmon La Sac is a Forest Service Campground at the west end of Washington 903. This is a classic Civilian Conservation Corps campground which has been there for as long as I can remember. Salmon La Sac is a Forest Service Campground at the west end of Washington 903. This is a classic Civilian Conservation Corps campground which has been there for as long as I can remember. Large for a Forest Service campground, it is rustic, with newer pit toilets located throughout the campground and amongst the camping loops. Potable water is available on site. Most potable water sources are hand operated pumps, with one solar operated pump near the picnic pavilion. During our stay the hand pumps worked flawlessly, although be aware that water comes out in a bit of an uncontrolled flow, so it might be useful if you have a funnel to help fill your water jugs or jerry cans. The solar operated pump near the picnic pavilion did not operate at all for me during our stay must be broken. The campground loops have a mix of pull-thru and back-in sites. I estimate that most of the pull-thru sites and many of the back in sites have the camp area with picnic table and fire ring located on the street side (driver’s side) of your rig. I found this odd and very inconvenient since you were always having to walk around your rig to go from your camp site to inside your RV. Makes outdoor cooking more difficult, amongst other issues. The recreation.gov site, which is great for completing reservations, doesn’t provide any site images for Salmon La Sac, so it is difficult to know if your site is going to have the campsite on curb side of your parking arrangement or not. The entire campground is paved, and all campsites have pavement for your RV and equipment. Campsites are mostly secluded, with some being highly secluded from other campers, and others having more of a clear view to other campers and sites. Our site was 17. Pull-thru, mostly level, but again, the campsite being on the street side of the rig, caused us to not use it much during our stay. The angle of entry into the pull-thru sites varies greatly. Site 17 has a pretty significant angle of entry, and then becomes very straight toward the exit. We found it easier to back in from past the site. Two camp hosts were on the grounds during out stay and seemed to look over different parts of the camp. They were friendly and accommodating and did a good job of keeping up the conditions of the pit toilets. There were lots of first-come sites available amongst all the reserved sites. The camp hosts were also accommodating in guiding us to an open group of first-come sites. There are no services on site and no hookups. You should be prepared to arrive with a full tank of water and empty holding tanks. There is no potable tank fill on site as none of the hand operated wells will work efficiently to fill your fresh tank. Be prepared to drive a ways to empty your holding tanks as there is no dump station at Salmon La Sac or any of the campgrounds in that area going east toward Roslyn. The closest dump station is at a private RV park in Cle Elum, and the free dump station at the Indian John Hill state rest stop east of Cle Elum. What the campground lacks for in services you get back in terms of spacious campsites, nicely paved roads, good privacy and seclusion, and convenient location to the rivers and the overall beauty of the location.
