I'll start with the positives. Large State Park, reasonable camping fees, lots of activities (horses, boat/kayak rentals, fishing, hiking/biking trails, etc), lots of natural landscaping, well maintained, good signage. Easy to find with stores/services not that far away. Restrooms are cleaned (closed during cleaning) 3x a day - schedule is posted near entry door. Friendly / helpful staff + volunteer campground Hosts. BIG Positive = Alcohol possession is NOT allowed in the Park which makes it... Read More

Friendly / helpful staff + volunteer campground Hosts. BIG Positive = Alcohol possession is NOT allowed in the Park which makes it much more family friendly along with 10pm quiet time allows for easy sleeping. Camping sites are a mix of gravel parking surrounded by grass/dirt. They are close together in many areas. They have reserved (add'l on-line fee) and walk-in sites too. Weekends are very busy with locals but much quieter during the week. Tree shade is sporadic with many sites without any coverage making it awfully hot during mid-west summer. Some have some shade for only parts of the day. Not so positives - Buggy (yes I know it's a park but can be really annoying when trying to enjoy a walk dodging bees & flies), Restrooms - although there are "outhouses" at various sites, the two main Campground facilities are too small for the number of campsites, need upgrades. In their defense, patrons are NOT treating the restrooms kindly. Even with frequent "cleaning" restrooms are still below what they should be. Would return mainly because of the peacefulness, natural setting and reasonable cost.

Very well run State Park. We always enjoy our stay here. The sites a nicely sized and you have sun or shade options, as well as wooded. There is plenty to keep you busy. Canoeing, Horseback Riding, Bike Trails and Hiking Trails. Or just set up camp and relax!
