We stayed 2 nights passing through the area to visit the nearby National Park Service sites. The park is a few miles East of town along the major road (US 180) into Silver City. The road has multiple lanes near the park's entrance but has a center turn lane. Accessing the park requires a short drive along a paved road that changes to gravel. We stayed 2 nights passing through the area to visit the nearby National Park Service sites.
The park is a few miles East of town along the major road (US 180) into Silver City. The road has multiple lanes near the park's entrance but has a center turn lane. Accessing the park requires a short drive along a paved road that changes to gravel. The park was built on rolling hilly ground so some of the roads and sites have interesting pitches.
The sites are a mixture of back-ins along the outer edge and P/T's in the center. The back-in sites seemed to be the extended stay tenants. There was an escort to the site. The interior roads and site parking pads are compacted gravel. The interior roads are narrow with tight turns. The P/T sites were long enough for coaches & their toads. This park didn't completely understand the simple concept of the importance of a flat, level site as some of the sites had a slight pitch potentially creating a leveling problem. Distance establishes privacy between the sites but they were close to each other. They have full hook ups - water, electricity (50/30/20 AMP), & sewer. The utility connections were towards the middle of the sites. Only our site had an elevated sewer connection making it difficult to establish a downhill flow. Don't remember there being an outside table or fire pits at the sites. There were some common fire pits around the park.
There are a few trees scattered around the park so satellite reception would be dependent upon site assignment and your dish configuration. The park brochure didn't show any cable or broadcast channels. Didn't try to get any broadcast channels.
The park provided WiFi was good. But only a few of the sites were occupied. It was password protected. Our Verizon WiFi hotspot worked well. Didn't try the NET10 phone so don't know about the reception.
The designated fenced pet area was adequate to exercise a dog. It had a dirt surface. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park roads. The pet area had bag dispensers and waste collection stations for waste.
For being in a hazardous/severe weather area, there was no underground storm shelter. None of the structures in the park were identified as a severe weather shelter.
Although it was nothing special, we would probably stay here again as there isn't much to choose from in the area.
