Adorable! This is a small family owned park, and they’re affection for it is shown in grounds, cleanliness, signage (and free ice cream bars). We stayed in a premium site with concrete patio, fire pit, brand new patio table with an umbrella and a porch swing. More like a well maintained parking lot with trains passing within feet of you than a campground. Right now with AC on, the train going by 15 feet behind our trailer and shaking my RV is drowning out the sound of the long-term camper’s TV 6 feet next to us. Well improved facilities with decent but small amenities where I feel like we’re in the Land of Lilliput. Pool, dog runs are itty bitty, the second dog run so small that I can virtually touch both sides at the same time, was certainly installed so they could market 2 dog areas. They tout every little amenity they have while failing to disclose the train, highways or parking lot size sites. 4 acres total to include 60 sites, narrow road in/out sandwiched between highly traveled railway tracks and road behind and another road in front does NOT make for a campground.

This RV park would have gotten a total 5 star review except for the bathroom facilities. The camping sites are great. The workers very friendly. Everything was immaculate. My only issue is there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for women in the whole park. There were a lot of people camping there on the dates I stayed, and there were lines for the toilets and showers. This RV park needs more bathroom facilities, or they need to limit the amount of people per campsite. There were both tents and trailer rigs sharing the space in a lot of the sites, which greatly impacted the amount of people using the bathroom.

First, let me say how wonderful the staff are at Anvil! Really, they couldn't be nicer or more accommodating or more polite. The grounds are well-kept & the pool & shower facilities seem to be new & always clean. The park is right in Williamsburg & even on a bus line for easy access to town & attractions. The grounds are well-kept & the pool & shower facilities seem to be new & always clean. The park is right in Williamsburg & even on a bus line for easy access to town & attractions. There's also a nice little trail nearby for a pleasant, shaded stroll. HOWEVER, the RV spaces are TINY! Some RVs couldn't get their awning out, due to the proximity of their neighbors & we witnessed rigs pulling in, then leaving due to lack of room. There was a constant shuffling of vehicles to accommodate those trying to park. We've camped cross the US & these are the smallest spots we've seen, hands down.
And, the place backs up to a train track & the trains are just relentless. Several sites back right up to a fence that can be no more than 6 feet from the tracks! The little commuter trains are nothing compared to the heavy, earth-shaking, noisy cargo trains that rattle through all day & all NIGHT. It really is a shame; the ambiance of the place is destroyed each time these mammoths roll through. I don't know how the tent campers got any sleep! Be warned; we were told that the trains "weren't bad", as were our neighbors...I'd say that's not entirely accurate.

We appreciate the nice compliments on our staff, grounds, pool and shower facilities. However, as much as we respect and appreciate everyone's opinion, in this particular case, we need to address certain depictions of our park as described in the rest of your review. The purpose of our response is to correct inaccuracies so our future guests will have the proper outlook on what to expect when they visit our beautiful park.
Keep in mind Anvil Campground is one of the highest rated RV parks in the country by Good Sam and tops on other travel sites for a reason. We have also been here longer than any other campground in Virginia and top 5 oldest in the country for a reason.
Our RV spaces vary in size. Some sites are as much as 50 feet wide. Bunches are 75 feet long. The smallest of spaces we have can accommodate any size RV and their awning. We have never had multiple rigs pull in and pull out and leave, due to lack of room. We receive comment cards often mentioning they love our spacious sites.
As far as the train goes; nearly all of our guests tend to disagree with your take. If it were as bad as you described, we would not still be in operation after 63 years. You were told that the trains "weren't bad" because that is the truth and that is what our guests tell us. Our sites are not as close to the train line as you describe and they are separated by 1 to 2 wire fences, a ditch, and trees.

We full-time RV in a 5th wheel for 3 years and have traveled coast to coast. The RV Park has the best customer service of ANY park we have been to. The park has been there for years and at one time was not in the middle of a city, it has grown around them. They have maximized every single bit of space that they possibly could. That being said, they have not cut any corners on amenities.
The bathrooms are definitely a 10*. The pool area and playground are very clean as well, we saw staff actually wiping down the playground equipment and chairs after it had rained. The playground has a small zip line in it that the kids seemed to really enjoy, it's something different than the same old standard playground equipment. They also have a picnic area in the playground so that the parents can bbq or sit at tables and just hang out while the kids play. That is a nice extra touch for those with children. Additionally they have a community fire pit with some cool seating around it if people are interested in having a fire away from their own site and visiting with others. What all this amounts to is that after you have spent they day seeing Williamsburg, you can come back and have all of these nice things waiting for you or if you just want a day of down time from running, you have everything you need to relax right here at the park.
Now back to the location....there is a train track on one side and a busy road on the other that as I mentioned grew around the park. It definitely is noticeable while sitting outside, but wasn't something that kept us from sleeping. If you want to be very close to everything in the area and don't mind the traffic noise or occasional train, then this is a great place to stay.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The advertised pull-thrus do not exist. Each pull-thru has been changed to two back-ins. Lots of trees and shade, good for high temperature but not for satellite. Four or five trains go by each day, some cause RV to shake (Yes, the tracks are that close!). Great place to stay for ease of access to Yorktown battlefield, Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Very good Wi-fi.

the worst campground we have ever been too; paid for a super we got a back in gravel site; playgrounds were horrible, paint chipping, under power lines, staff was rude, very expensive to stay there; wrote a complaint letter to the owner and he did nothing about it; couldnt put out awning all the way because it would touch trees; will never go there again-horrible!

We wish you had a better personal experience. Our Premium sites are gravel but cared for so meticulous we get the same Good Sam rating as if they were paved. All of our playgrounds have gone through extensive remodel/replacement. They are truly first class. Even when you were here, they was not chipping paint, we paint our facility weekly. No playground is under a power line. You wrote an e-mail to the owner and the owner responded to all of your comments immediately. All we can say is we... Read More

What a delightful place. We spent three nights here and loved it. The campground is centrally located to all of the attractions and even includes a shuttle for those that do not wish to drive. The staff were over the top friendly and helpful. On check in they gave us a TON of information and before one of our sightseeing excursions they helped us with all of the planning. Do not stay here. This place has no room for larger campers. The sights are small, and have no shade. The restrooms start off each day nice and clean, but are not followed up on. Noise is not controlled, and check in's arrive all night long, making noise while you are trying to sleep. Also, they do not tell you it is along road and train frontage. They may tell you both are nearby when you book, but in reality, there sights abut against either the train tracks (which passes by four times a night... Read More

We have hosted any size RV for 62 years. We offer large sites for big rigs and smaller sites for smaller rigs. We offer shade sites and open sites for satellite usage.
Our restrooms cannot be any cleaner and our checked all day long. Some guests may arrive late, but most are check-in during the day.
We do have a road that leads to the entrance of our campground. There is a train that is parallel to the campground and it runs sporadically and sometimes none.
There is a privacy fence and trees all around the campground.
The Good Sam rating that we received is a very serious rating. The inspection process is a diligent process that all Good Sam parks go through. It takes a significant amount of time. There is a format that Good Sam uses that is very specific. Each Good Sam Park is subject to the same rating guidelines.

The campground was very clean and comfortable. The restrooms were spotless! The staff is extremely friendly & helpful. The huge plus is this is the only campground located on the Williamsburg Public Bus System. Campers beware it is located next to the train tracks, so don't be surprised or disappointed when you arrive. With that being said we slept right through them. We would most definitely stay here again.

An interesting place. This is a very small campground that is right up against the railroad tracks. The trains come through a couple of times a day. It was a tight fit for my 43' Class A Motorhome. The location is very convenient to Williamsburg. The staff is nice and friendly. Its a good place to stay if you plan to be out all day at the Williamsburg attractions otherwise I would look elsewhere.

got in really late. had our site on board outside office, nice campground. sites are tight but nicely set up. staff very freindly, pool is nice for a quick dip. bathroom stalls and shower could be a little more private, but very clean. easy access to busses to williamsburg right outside campgound. pet freindly, nice store and common area.

We only stayed 1 night (2 adults and 1 5yr old) but this is a very nice campground and would stay here again. This is not a campground to spend all weekend hanging out at (because it is very small), but is perfect for those who are in Williamsburg to vacation and do the activities there (Busch Gardens, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc.). We stayed in a premium site with concrete patio, fire pit, brand new patio table with an umbrella and a porch swing. More like a well maintained parking lot with trains passing within feet of you than a campground. Right now with AC on, the train going by 15 feet behind our trailer and shaking my RV is drowning out the sound of the long-term camper’s TV 6 feet next to us. Well improved facilities with decent but small amenities where I feel like we’re in the Land of Lilliput. Pool, dog runs are itty bitty, the second dog run so small that I can virtually touch both sides at the same time, was certainly installed so they could market 2 dog areas. They tout every little amenity they have while failing to disclose the train, highways or parking lot size sites. 4 acres total to include 60 sites, narrow road in/out sandwiched between highly traveled railway tracks and road behind and another road in front does NOT make for a campground.

This RV park would have gotten a total 5 star review except for the bathroom facilities. The camping sites are great. The workers very friendly. Everything was immaculate. My only issue is there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for women in the whole park. There were a lot of people camping there on the dates I stayed, and there were lines for the toilets and showers.
