I'm new at the RV game and found Wapocoma with an internet search. We were very happy with the site. There was a great kids play area with swings, slides, climbing bars and two sand boxes. My 4 1/2 year old Grandson enjoyed it very much. The South Branch of the Potomac River forms the West boundary of the site. There is a large bend that the site is located on giving a very long river exposure. The South end better for swimming and there was a long beach. I recommend foot wear of some sort.... Read More

We were very happy with the site. There was a great kids play area with swings, slides, climbing bars and two sand boxes. My 4 1/2 year old Grandson enjoyed it very much.
The South Branch of the Potomac River forms the West boundary of the site. There is a large bend that the site is located on giving a very long river exposure. The South end better for swimming and there was a long beach. I recommend foot wear of some sort. The near side of the river is shallow compared to the far side. There is less of a current here and the water was clear and warm in mid-August. Many families/groups were swimming and not getting in each other's way. There seemed to be non-campers (locals) that drove in and parked close to the water. There was plenty of room for this and the ground easily supported the vehicles. A lot of kayakers were approaching from the South and getting out here and picked up by trucks and trailers. Some paddled on thru and must have gotten out closer to or in Romney. The kayakers a canoes stayed in the deeper part of the river and did not interfere with Swimmers.
I swam across the river and noted it was about 7' deep in the deepest part. The current was not very strong and one could paddle in either direction but, going with the flow seemed much more popular. I understand that water level is much lower in August/September an in the Spring.
My wife noted that the bath house was VERY clean. This is a real complement as her standards are high. The grass was thick and well maintained. Roads were dry gravel with no ruts or holes. Many campers had golf carts to get around in. I had towed my Jeep Wrangler and the one trip we made to the front we used it. The River was an easy walk from our site.
The North section of the river was a little wider and the beach there did not lend itself to swimming as well as those on the Southern part. This is where people were fishing. I watched a couple snag a pair of Bluegills as I walked up to talk to them. They had been coming to this site for several years and stay for 3 months. They said the fishing had not been as good this year as in the past but it was "OK." We saw several large Carp in the shallow water while I spoke to them. I understand the\ Carp are great fun to land and then let go. They had also caught Bass in the same location. People fish from shore and others from kayaks, canoes and small boats. I did not see anyone using motorized craft.
I will visit again for sure. There is a Railroad in Romney that runs on Saturday and Sundays. Ask at the front desk for details. We saw the cars going past on Saturday afternoon after lunch.
I did not like the taste of the water and stayed with bottles and jugs we had brought. I have a 12" charcoal filter on my water hose but still thought it tasted off a bit.
There is a convenient dump station for trash on the way out. We did not go up daily and just dropped several bags on the way out.
