We stayed 2 nights to visit nearby national park locations.
The park is located downtown so it requires maneuvering congested city streets. There is a campground host that you check in with when you arrive. Sites are not assigned and check out time is 5PM! So finding a site is hit or miss depending on what is vacant when you arrive.
Just after unhooking our towed, a grounds worker using a string trimmer broke out the rear window on the towed throwing rocks. He continued throwing rocks while working around the grounds and parked RV’s. While the State’s insurance provider paid for the damage, it took about a month to check the check.
The interior roads are gravel. The interior roads and turns are sufficient to maneuver larger RV’s. There are less than 10 pull thru sites. Everything else is back in. The P/T sites were long enough to stay connected to a toad. Sites had sufficient room for opening slides unless the sites are full.
As this is an open field, the field is subject to swells and dips so it is difficult to find a flat and level site.
They have full hook ups – water, electricity (50/30/20 AMP), & sewer. The utility connections were at the end of the back in sites and towards the middle of the P/T sites. But the P/T sites required running the water hose under the RV to make a connection. The sewer connection fitting was at about ground level so establishing a downhill flow is dependent on the discharge point. When the sites are full, there is no space between the sites. Stay limitation is subject to the State’s discretion.
There are some tall trees along one of the park’s borders that could interfere with satellite reception depending upon site and dish configuration. No cable. No park information provided so don’t know about OTA broadcast channels as we didn’t try to get any broadcast channels.
No park provided WiFi. Our Verizon WiFi hotspot worked well. Didn’t try the NET10 phone so don’t know about reception.
No designated pet area. There were no bag dispenser or collection stations for waste but there was a dumpster for garbage. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park’s roads and along the adjacent city streets/walking paths.
TIP: Stay requires reservations made ahead of time with the Fairgrounds office.
We stay here 3-4 times a year to visit relatives. Park is convenient to major highways, restaurants, stores, etc. The price is right at $25/day (except during special events $32/day). They do not offer long term pricing as the city requires an occupancy permit for more than seven days which requires a trip to the office every week. The office staff is very friendly, but they have had frequent turnover of hosts recently. Do not recommend staying here during extended rain periods as most of the sites are lower than access roads and lead to potentially getting stuck. Park at the entrance, get out of your rig and take a look around. Most of the time there are only 20-30 RV's in park and they are okay with taking up 2 spaces so no problem with slides.
