Just before the pandemic started closing things down, we stayed a weekend at this state park. It started raining about an hour after we got parked, and it stopped raining about an hour before we left (both of which made the hitch/unhitch process a little more pleasant, to be sure!). We had a lovely, quiet weekend, surrounded by trees and the sounds of rain and wildlife. There was a female cardinal who kept pecking at our trailer's windows, but it was amusing, rather than irritating. The nice thing... Read More

We had a lovely, quiet weekend, surrounded by trees and the sounds of rain and wildlife. There was a female cardinal who kept pecking at our trailer's windows, but it was amusing, rather than irritating. The nice thing about the campsite we stayed at is that it (like other nearby sites) are *surrounded* by trees you cannot see anything "out there" but the road in front of your site. It's like having your own little park! The spot is spacious, if you want to pitch a tent for the kids or a friend, with a ground fire-ring with grilling grate, and a picnic table and lantern hook.
We didn't get to the lake, or any of the other features of this park, because of the weather, but it was a lovely, relaxing, decompressing stay for us anyway. We definitely plan to go back!

I don't necessarily know how to review a park like this but I will try. I guess the best I can say is that I would definitely come back here, if that helps. It's not a 5 star because, well, it just isn't. I wouldn't call it a 4 either, but a 3 overall I don't think is bad for a state park. This is a quiet, secluded state park with a lake that is the same. The sites and park are paved and overall, they were level enough. Some sites looked to be tough to get into if you are over 25', but the... Read More

Some sites looked to be tough to get into if you are over 25', but the one we had we were able to back our 28 footer and truck up into and not be sticking into the road.
50 amp service and water at most sites that I saw. Dumping station at front of each section.
The state park portion of the park is not what I would necessarily call pretty, as it appears in the past there has been flooding and maybe even a fire that has devastated some areas, but then other areas were really quite pleasant. We did plenty of trails there and saw some really good nature. The park is about flat as you would expect for this area of Texas, so trails are super easy and just a nice way to get in nature. We kayaked and also liked being there for that. There is very little in the way of "city" around, so if seclusion is your thing, this is a good place. It's not boondocking by any stretch, but it's also not a campground.
