Very good looking when we arrived a couple years ago but when we came back this time you look closer and it needs a lot of work. An older woman told us that the campground had just flooded and many families lost everything they had so that area was in bad shape. There were belongings still scattered everywhere. She said that they had never had one this bad since the old owner died a couple years ago and they used to move everyone to safety in the past but now they have nobody left that will do it because all of their old staff left or were let go after he died. Looking past that part though all the buildings look rough and have old peeling paint and rotten trim with mold stains. The beautiful garden is now overgrown and full of weeds. Campsites are good size but this time ours wasn’t level and had a broken patio and we sunk in the mud because the stone parking pads are worn out. But some are level and very nice it is luck if you get a bad one or a nice one. It looked like they upgraded the electric in some parts since the last time we stayed. The Bathrooms weren’t very clean and the fixtures are getting old and pitted, they need to be replaced. The shower drains were full of hair and really smelled unpleasant and there was no soap or toilet paper for an entire day. It always used to be very busy and everyone was friendly but it looks like many have left for greener pastures and it is falling on hard times. Nobody looked happy this time around and the clerk wasn’t cheerful. I hope things turn around for them because it used to be very nice but I won’t come here again until they get their act together. It is a crying shame that they have gone downhill so fast.

We love this campground! This was our second stay here and the owner and staff were exceptional. The park has so many beautiful places, the river, the pond, the farm, the whole area is very scenic. Great location close to the beach and several nice towns like Clinton and Madison. We had no trouble getting our rig in or out and all systems worked well. Wifi was great, and the Cable TV was also good. We have Verizon and it was 3 to 4 bars but worked fine with the wifi. I would recommend this park to overnighters as wells as travelers who want to vacation in a beautiful setting with lots of great people. They have lots of activities and things to do planned for the coming months. Some of the reviews are in our opinion, a bit harsh. The owner is working very hard to upgrade this park and has many great plans for the future. We would definitely recommend to our friends to stay here.

One of the noisiest and seemingly out of control RV parks we've stayed in. A zoo really. Overcrowded, antiquated facilities, loud music every night you could hear throughout the camp. The owner seems to focus on the gardens, which are pretty. But the rest of the place is hellish. I understand she will upgrade the facilities this winter. That's a plus but if she still has no noise rules you'll feel like you're in a the middle of a rock concert every evening, late into the night. It seems to be a place people go where they can do whatever they want.

We made our reservation in April for a 4 night stay in August. We arrived to find a tent on our site. Office said, "They're nice people. They'll move their car over. You can still fit." The corner of their tent was 6 inches from our sewer. We decided to drain after they would leave. Which it turned out to be 3 nights later! Upon attempting to drain our grey water we found the sewer to be clogged. Office said, "We'll look at it tomorrow". The next day we went sightseeing and came back to find nothing had been done with the sewer but they offered to send the honey wagon in the morning. We were leaving early. Meanwhile they have NO QUIET HOURS and music blasted from 2 nearby campsites 3 of the 4 nights we spent there. If it is an unpleasant camping experience you seek, you will find it here. Also WIFI forget it.

Not good stay for us here. Campsite 133 not level. We could not get level. Could not get wifi to work. Cable did not work. Electric kept surging from post. Surge protector kept signaling bad ground/leg on 50amp. No help to fix electric. Rest building falling apart and peeling bad paint. Road very narrow. Hit trees on way down road. Very loud at night. Not good security. Staff person have bad manners. The owner very nasty to my wife. Need to hire nice people and need owner that know how to treat customers and run a camp ground. Will not go again. Retired couple. Camping 45 years.

Positives: The permanent people that lived on the sites near us were very nice. The area around Clinton was nice and had good shopping. It was close to the interstate. It was visually appealing when we arrived. We had good cell phone reception. The bathroom wasn't very far from our campsite and was relatively clean. The roads are paved. They had a laundry facility. They had a nice dog walking area. The price was ok. Negatives: The roads leading there are very narrow and have low trees. The security gate is not manned and we were parked there for 30 minutes ringing before we walked to the office for help. The two women working were arguing in the other room and were very rude when I tried to get their attention to check us in. We got lost on the way to our site. The roads inside the park are very narrow with sharp turns. The lot we had was very narrow and so unlevel all of our boards still didn't get it level. The 50 amp hookups did not work at the site and the socket was burned out. Our fireplace was full of cigarettes and garbage and dog feces. Our picnic table was rotting. When we went to complain about these things after we were settled we were not able to, they closed the office and none of the emergency phone numbers we called were answered. We could not find any park staff to help us either even when we asked the residents for help. Overall: This was one of the poorer rv parks we have stayed at. The park was pretty but the service was terrible and the campsite we had needed some serious work. The price would have been very resonable if we actually got what was advertised and we thought we paid for. The residents that lived around us told us that for the last couple years it had been going downhill fast and they were going to leave because the old owner died the month before. They told us that the woman that owned it now was "evil and didn't know what she was doing" (Their words not ours). Our experience could have been a combination of bad luck and timing. We have stayed at worse parks before but we would not stay here again.

It would be nice if they could tell you if you can get satellite on a site. And trim trees to make it more possible. On the weekends a lot of kids & adults walking around, not on the same side of the road & its tough to back out even when you're being careful. Driveway leaving needs to be leveled out.

Access from I-80 is dicey at best. Small narrow road that is about 1 ½ mile long access from the interstate. Access to campground is by card reader only but they have a speaker system that you can speak to the office with when first time entry. This campground advertises as being Big Rig Friendly but there only a very few sites that a big rig will fit in. Some campsites are pitifully covered with gravel that has just been poured on it and left there with little attempt being made to smooth and level it out. The first one we tried to park in, that was assigned to us by the office, was so unlevel our rear wheels would have been off of the ground even with extra pads under the tires. We could not get level. We looked around and found one we thought we could fit in which was a back in grassy site. Even then it was difficult to back in because of the narrow street but we were able to do it because there wasn't anyone across from us at the time. Utility services easily accessible from the rig with the water being very hard. Verizon wireless accessible with a strong signal. Satellite access was iffy in this campground due to large trees. Large amount of permanent parked sites with most pleasantly set up and landscaped. Residents very friendly to transient's. Downtown Guilford, CT was a nice daytrip with shops and restaurants. Waterfront area was nice with a view of Faulkner's Island. There is a state park close by with trails that we did not visit. Restrooms clean and functional. Small laundry on site that we did not use.

River Dale was not one our better experiences. We stayed in the fall and it was very pretty but the campsites were average at best and ours was poor. Broken fire place and rotten and bent table. The baths looked decent but needed updates, a lot of peeling paint and broken lights and dispensers. The roads going there a very narrow and have low trees and the roads in the campground are very tight also. Like others we also dealt with rude staff. The employee who checked us in was one of the rudest we have ever experienced and shouldn't be working with people, because it was everyone she was dealing with before us as well. It's only saving grace to us was its location and that we were able to bring our dogs out of our motorhome, but still we wouldn't go here again.

I stayed overnight while traveling through in October. We stopped here a few years back one time as well in 2012 and I was satisfied with our previous stay so I decided to stay again and what a mistake that was. The site they gave me was unusually small, compared to other parks, I tried to get on for a while and maybe could have made it work, but would have had to jack knife the trailer in, and then there was the issue of an oddly placed sewer outlet that would prevent me from making back and forth corrections. I drove back around and asked for another one but when I asked I was refused. From just driving back around there were at least 2 or 3 dozen other larger vacant sites and when I brought that up I was told they needed the bigger sites for trailers bigger than mine if they come. When I told the boy in the office that I was going to leave and find another park, I was offered the overflow field for $20. It was next to their dumpster it had no hookups no picnic table and we couldn't even have a campfire. He was incredibly rude to us but my family was tired and after 6 hours on the road and an hour trying to get on the original site we just took it. Nothing for kids to do even though it was a Columbus Weekend. They advertised the last dance of the season and it was more like last call, not the place for our kids way too much drinking. Pay showers had no hot water. Dirty restrooms. Pay to play little game room with more than half the games broken. The playground looked nice but up close there was litter all over and broken beer bottles. Pond looks nice from aerial view in web photo, but is small and surrounded by seasonal sites which have the prime real estate. A small walk way in for others, but very little public space around that thing. Some campers told us the state closed it over the summer because the water was unsafe and people got sick going in it. From what we were able to overhear from the full timers up there they recently got rid of the kid who ran the office and did all the grounds work and cleaning. I guess it was the park manager or something, and that upset pretty much all of the people up there from what we could tell. If you're looking for a good overnight spot, save yourself the stress and go elsewhere.

We made a reservation here for 1 week in August and chose to come here because of the very high ratings. When we first arrived we were very impressed by the well manicured entrance way but were surprised to see they did not have a security gate or security to speak of. Their office was nice and well stocked, however the young man that checked us in was rather rude and snarky and wasn't able to answer many of our questions about our campsite. The roadways were very narrow but were paved and passable for our 34' fifth wheel but bigger rigs and inexperienced drivers will have difficulty. Our assigned campsite was very small and we asked to move but there was no other availability. We had to pull into the site across from us to straighten out, which angered them as we dug into their lawn with our tires. The campsite was very unlevel as well but had a nice cement patio picnic table and fireplace. On our site and many others the corners of the patios were broken off and just put back in place. They were very wobbly to stand on or walk over which I thought was very unsafe, especially for older individuals or children. The bath house closest to our campsite as well as the one behind the office left much to be desired and honestly I am unsure how the achieved such a high rating. For the majority of our stay they were quite dirty and the trash cans smelled like feces. Additionally they had quite a large number of damaged lights and fixtures. The showers were oddly pay showers and they did not work well and there was no hot water. I am unsure of the other restrooms as these were the only two we used. One of the breakers at our campsite failed during our stay and needed to be replaced but we have experienced that before, however when our sewer failed as well that was annoying. Being told that we could not dump for the remainder of our stay and would have to either use their dump station or pay for a pump out was rather upsetting. We complained to the owner and asked for a partial refund as we requested a full service campsite but she told that the sewer and non sewer campsites were the same price anyway so they would not issue a refund or even offer a free pump out for the inconvenience, she was quite rude as well. Our stay beyond these issues was sub-par at best. The free wifi they advertise is quite poor and did not work other than around 3am during the week and did not work at all on the weekend. The activities they had were decent for young children however the bingo for adults was cancelled and their dance was just appalling. We dealt with quite a large amount of noise at night even during their quiet times, which we complained about to no avail. There was copious amounts of alcohol consumption as well as the erratic driving of golf carts at high rates of speed, which was quite excessive even by camping standards. Quite a few young people and teenagers were drinking as well which we found concerning as they were doing it out in the open and no one seemed to care, even the owner and staff. The regular presence of town police driving around inside the campground, which we found somewhat disturbing, did not seem to quell this behavior. If we were to ever come here again it would be as a last resort and only for an overnight stopover. While the appeal score for their entrance area is fitting their restrooms, the facility overall, and the very poor customer relations as well as the amount of underage drinking and excessive noise was a complete turnoff for our family.
