Not our first stay here but our last It is very convenient for us as it is near family and about 1/2 way point to a regular destination. Sites are big but the Managament is petty. The park only had less than a dozen sites full during our visit you would think they would be a little more friendly to their guests that are there.

Easter Weekend, friends stopped over for a brief visit on their way home from Florida to Maine. They stayed in their motor coach at the Candy Hill Campground just west of Winchester. He is a disabled Viet Nam veteran who walks with substantial difficulty, and she has back issues. Saturday morning, we drove to Candy Hill from our home east of Winchester to meet our guests and take them on a day-long tour of the greater Winchester area. We were intercepted in the park on our way to our guests’ camp-site by a very rude staffer who demanded we go to the office instead. There we were told, in equally nasty tones, we could not drive to the camp-site unless we paid a $10 “guest fee”, although we were just picking-up our guests. We would face the same issue when we returned for the drop-off. The upshot was that our disabled and elderly guests were forced to walk some 150 yards up to the office and, on our return, to walk a similar distance in the dark from the park entry, up the hill, to their campsite. We are RVers ourselves. We’ve been to about 35 RV parks across the country during the past decade. We know that charging a modest fee for guests of campers to use park facilities (like the pool, etc.) is a common practice. However, we’ve never encountered a facility that would not permit campsite pick-ups/drop-offs without a fee. We consider this treatment to be highly disrespectful and exploitative of guests who deserve to be honored and accommodated. (This campground does not even offer a discount to veteran campers– many other RV parks do.) Consequently, we cannot and will not recommend Candy Hill Campground to our many RV friends and acquaintances. We strongly recommend that Candy Hill discontinue this inconsiderate and disrespectful practice.

We stayed one night, as we were passing through. Very nice homey, campground. Close to the highway, easy on/off, nice big sites, friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

Booked a 3 night stay here, as that was the required minimum. However, we were happy to leave after 2 nights. The staff on the golf carts are extremely rude and micro-manage your every move in the park. They will not even let you park yourself and they force you to pull your rig up to exactly where they say, which caused issues when we were going to leave, as we almost had to hit a pickup truck on the site across from ours to get out and damaged our tow dolly in the process from turning too sharply. We had site D15, which is a pull through site, 30 amp not 50, no sewer even though there's big manhole covers on the site for servicing the septic system of the park, the water spigot leaked the entire time we were there and continued to puddle near the electrical. I found a shard of glass and a stake along side the driveway. We were in town visiting my family, which I hadn't seen in over 6 years. They harassed us about a visitors parking pass for my mothers vehicle even though we were still only leaving one vehicle on our site as we car pooled to go spend time together in Winchester. This costed $10. We came back briefly to pickup my wife and my brother followed us to stay with us on our way to dinner, they immediately swarmed his vehicle harassing for another visitor pass. This is not a welcoming campground at all, they have no hospitality whatsoever. They nickle and dime you for no good reason, as the daily rate isn't a cheap one for the quality of service. The internet is a tiered system where they try to force you to get an upgraded pass to have any connection worth while. They wont let you have a fire ring unless you buy their wood. The campground itself is well situated for access to Winchester and has a lot of potential, but management is horrendous and will leave you feeling stressed rather than relaxed like camping should be. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

I left an earlier review with 5-stars when we stayed here in the Spring (2022) for about ten days. Then we returned for 90-some days. The 5-star rating remains the same and for the same reasons: it’s neat here, organized, attention to details, good store, convenient location to big routes, close proximity to a med center, (good) restaurants, quiet nights, tight security (that’s what those red shirts on the golf carts are doing, folks, security), big rig friendly, pet friendly, nearby Walmart (boondocking... YES. So, what are the downsides? Route 37 runs parallel to the camp on one side it’s noisy, which doesn’t bother us. I take my hearing aids out, and it sounds like ocean waves. But if traffic noise is a bug in your bonnet, be sure to get a spot far from the road. And the Candy Hill laundry room could be improved with DEXTER automation. We went to a nearby DEXTER laundromat in Stephen City every two weeks so that we could use their big automated machines that accept an easy-peasy money app from our phone that allows us to monitor the progress of each machine from our smart phones as well as pay without lugging around a kilo of quarters. Fifty bucks and 80 minutes later we’re outtathere, pilgrims. The whole camper is Tide Clean. Sheets, coverlets, pillows, TT dog toys and bedding, truck dog bedding, whites, colors, delicates. Bad-a-boom! If Candy Hill ever gets the DEXTER system, I’ll give it 6-stars instead.

Disappointed! Disappointed is the best word I can use to describe Candy Hill. The campground is beautiful, neat, clean, well-kept and very inviting. Being long-time campers, we know, you get what you pay for. So we paid what is usually charged for a "nice" campground ($68 per night). First, we were concerned about the tightness of the roads. Second, we were concerned about the size of the site we were assigned even though we had been assured we would "fit" just fine. Thank goodness there... Read More

Second, we were concerned about the size of the site we were assigned even though we had been assured we would "fit" just fine. Thank goodness there was no one parked at the site across from us or we wouldn't have been able to get out. But the biggest disappointment was the visitors' fees! We were within an hour's drive of our daughter's home. Hubby was sick and she drove out to bring him chicken soup. The crazy thing ~ we had to pay $10 each for our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter to come out. Visit for a couple of hours, have dinner with us and then leave. Really!?!? We will not be coming back to this campground.

Don't bother!!! I have been camping a long time, and I have NEVER been treated so RUDELY! They have an extremely strict visitor policy. Fine, that's their prerogative. But there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for being so completely disrespectful and just plain contemptuous. Especially to the elderly! It is a pretty camp ground, but nothing can make up for such ugly behavior.

This is NOT a nice place to stay. They nickel and dime you for everything. The staff doesn’t seem to like working here and is only slightly friendly. The owner/manager has temper issues and will scream at you for the slightest rule violation. They charge $8 if someone comes to your site to pick you up and if you complain they’ll force you to park your toad at the 7/11, 1/2 mile away. The site was not level and was barren except for the mud and unmowed grass. This is the WORST camping experience... Read More

Very nice campground. Escort to site with help backing in was a nice touch. If using the dump station it is suggested you use the escort service as well. With a narrow roadway and a tight turn, one can come too close to the boulder in front of the dump station, right next to the road. You cannot see the boulder with your mirrors. And, if you do not try to stay as wide as you can this boulder can knock out your sewer system. I did not notice any other marker that was high enough to see from the... Read More

Only stayed one night passing through to Georgia. We stayed in lot B4 which had water, sewer, electric and cable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The store was well equipped with RV needs, farm fresh eggs were delicious and the grounds were well kept. We would stay here again, friendly place.

Take the time to also read the Trip Advisor reviews... Well, it's convenient, and pretty much the only place in Winchester, VA. Otherwise, I would not stay here again. The rest: the road in in narrow and a little curvy (only a short distance). I have a 40' and was probably more worried about the turn than I should have. The water spigot leaked when I... Read More

The good: they've got a well stocked camp store. The lady in the store was nice. The bathrooms are warm. They're clean, but nothing special. The rest: the road in in narrow and a little curvy (only a short distance). I have a 40' and was probably more worried about the turn than I should have. The water spigot leaked when I pulled up the handle. So much so that it created a large puddle around the power pole. I put a milk carton upside down to keep my autoformer dry. Fortunately (?) we only needed enough water to rinse the tanks. If we needed water to the house we'd have a lake out there by morning. The Wi-Fi wants you to create an account on some provider's network. It's not they're network, it's someone else's. Every other park just gives you a password and off you go. Here you've got to give some provider your info. And it's only for 24 hours. Have to log in again tomorrow. Yes, a small thing, but a thing none the less. The kicker (or, why I'll stay elsewhere in the future): While in the area, we asked a friend to come by for dinner / pizza. As soon as he pulled in, RV park personnel came up in the cart and told him to go to the office to sign in AND PAY A $5 VISITOR FEE! When I questioned this, he said, "it's in the form you signed when you checked in...". Yes, it is. I had no idea I needed to read the check in form like a legal document! He also told us that if the visitor stayed for less than an hour, WE'D GET A $4 REFUND. Well heck, let's feel grateful that they're only charging us $1 for a short visit. I just have to say that it feels like being nickel and dimed... I'm sure that there are other parks that charge fees to have a visitor, but I haven't seen them. I know it's only $5 and we pay many thousands of dollars for these RVs, but come on, a visitor fee for a dinner guest? Looking at other reviews, they've for fees for everything. I wanted to use this park as my last stopover before home running home the next day (about 2 hours from here). However, I'll stay at the nearby Walmart in the future.

Easy check in. Very friendly. Escort to site. Chose the luxury pull thru. Cement pad, grill, table and chairs. Paved roads, nice playground. Clean facilities, laundry, restrooms. Campground is the cleanest I've seen. Great location near attractions, eg. Downtown Winchester, golf course, and easy on/off to Route 37. Spacious sites throughout the campground.

Our site was in the back away from the highway, it was nicely shaded, level and quiet. We also had an onsite RV mechanic multiple times, he was escorted to our site and we had no problems with this. The dog run was fantastic, one of the largest we've seen. We camped in a 35' Class A motor home. On-site storage worked well for our motorcycle trailer but we had to get permission before we could visit it. This was inconvenient but we appreciate the extra security.

We'd like to go back thru and actually spend a bit of time there. Only negative I can think of is that we ordered pizza delivery from a local place that was suggested when we arrived and the pizza was literally room temperature when they brought it to us. Clearly not the parks fault, but if you are ordering pizza delivery, I'd choose it from a different place. ;)

A good overnight stop. In winter they disconnect the water overnight even if it is not freezing. In my case they dropped it in the dirt because i did not do it myself. I did not liked it because of the contamination risk. They would not listen to my complaint and sticked to their procedure saying it was for their protection and not mine they were interested in. So be advised no water even if you pay for it.

There is a gas station on the corner where you turn to the park and a Walmart and more gas the next light west of the turn off. Paid $47.32 w/ gs

Not a real friendly reception here in Winchester, Virgini; doubt that we'll be back - ever. Too many other places to go to have to endure rude behavior from check in staff. They clearly do not want our business! I recommend that everybody skip this RV park. We arrived in the early afternoon in our 20' class-B Sprinter van-based RV. We did not stop where a sign indicated to stop to register, as another RVer was connecting his rig to his pickup and I would have prevented him from maneuvering had I stopped where the sign said to. When my wife and I walked into the office, the woman abrasively said, "first off- YOU did not stop where the sign said you should." I pointed out that I hadn't because I did not want to prevent the other person from being able to connect to his rig. The retort to this was "he's already over the clock and should have been out of here hours ago." My wife asked if they had any availability for the night. Office check-in woman: "do you have a reservation?" Wife: "No, but we were hoping...". Office woman, "humph!" Wife: "we've stayed here before, and enjoyed it; we're Good Sam members." I left the office at this point because the tone of the conversation was extremely unpleasant, and my wife is much more understanding than I. When my wife returned to our RV - I told her that "I didn't need that; let's go on." My wife said that she'd already paid for a full-hookup spot. My wife also said that the woman in the office continued to be most unpleasant and said that I had also been driving too fast after entering the campground (the posted speed limit is 5MPH; I do not believe that I was ever over 10MPH). We indicated to the escort to our site that the office woman had been unnecessarily offensive and that we were unlikely to return. Later, after we had set-up, somebody else, a man identifying himself as the manager, drove up to our RV in a golf cart. He indicated that he had heard that there was a problem, apologized, we relayed the facts above from our perspective and said that although this was our third stay here, it was unlikely that we would do so again. Which is true, there are simply too many other nice places and life is too short to have to deal with unnecessarily nasty people.

This is a great campground. We stayed one night on our way north and liked it so much we stayed for 2 nights on the way back. It is clean and the sites are well-laid out. The only issue is the highway noise, which got better by bedtime...

A very nice campground. Friendly staff, fair prices, there can be a bit of highway noise but once you settle in to the pleasant surroundings who notices! Very convenient to fuel, Walmart, restaurants and not far off U.S. 81. We plan many more trips there in the future.

We thought everyone was very helpful & pleasant. They gave us info about the local area and places to eat or have food delivered.. We appreciated all that input as we were tired and hungry.. lol Very peaceful nights rest.

The staff were very courteous as we were planning to arrive late for an overnight stop. They gave us a pull through since it was dark so save us from having to back in. The restrooms are clean but a bit old. The store is great.

The camp store was well stocked and very clean. The campsites are a little closer together than I am use to but there was still plenty of room for slides and awnings. The campground is right off of the highway so there is highway noise. One thing we found interesting is the amount of transit traffic they get this time of year. Every evening they fill up with people passing through and they are on their way the next morning. It is conviently located near I-81. We will visit again if camping in the area.

VERY RUDE people working there. When you ask for a pull through when making a reservation they ask for your TT length. If you don't respond or ask again about a pull through they yell at you 'How long is your trailer'. They have very few pull throughs and you end up with a back in space. Restrooms very dated, campground is nice, but people are very rude. I'll by pass this CG next time.

Had a wonderful stay here while visiting family in the area. Campgrounds were well maintained and the people were very friendly. Campground was easy to find and in & out access was great. Recommend this RV park to all.

If I could give them six stars..I would..during our stay here our little green cheek conure went missing. The staff showed up at our motorhome at 11 pm and help us search inside the camper and the campgrounds..they are great. Bath house was well maintained. Pool was cleaned and there is ample supplies for Rvs. Plenty of food and goodies. We will be back.

We paid $52.00 with a Good Sam discount. Seems a bit high for what you get but this is the only game in town. Cable and Wifi available. Great location 3 miles out of historic Winchester and about 6 miles from I-81. Cacapon Resort State Park is 28 miles north on route 522. The quaint town of Berkley Springs is just 7 miles further north. Some sites are concrete slabs, some are gravel, both pull-thru and back-in sites available. Our pull through site allowed us to stay connected for an overnight. No leveling necessary on paved pad. There is a pool, playground and lots of open space, rolling topography. The bathrooms are very outdated and need a serious update. Old wooden doors on the toilets but clean. Showers were roomy with a plastic shower curtain but dressing area was not private; consisted of a bench just outside the shower curtain, not enclosed. We will stay there again...great spot for overnight or for visiting interesting areas nearby.

Not our first stay here but our last It is very convenient for us as it is near family and about 1/2 way point to a regular destination. Sites are big but the Managament is petty. They monitor your every move and are on you with swarms of golf carts. We were harassed for a small pet fence put up with the assistance of one of their employees. Owner came out and yelled at us after berating our neighbor. Visitor are harassed and if you go over 5mph even by 1 mph they are on top of you.... Read More
